Pacquette is the only one of those that doesn't have a NTC and moving him does not really help them with their cap that much. I don't see why any of the others would waive their NTC to leave a great team, nice city and most likely make less money due to taxes.
I would think that if there is a compliance buyout, Palat would be the guy. One of the others could likely be gone at the expansion draft next summer.

Sure, then enjoy watching all 82 games from the press box then. Force them out. If you want to play hockey again, it won’t be in Tampa.

Trading a guy who will be on the ballot for the Selkie for the next 10 years because of being scared guys wouldn’t waive their NTC would be bad business.

I’m sure they won’t have any issues.

Every year we talk about them losing one of their great young players and it’s happened 0 times

Well hopefully are GM has his pulse on things. I hope he is following a plan that he put together. He has a chance to really reset the franchise this offseason. I have defended some of the things he has done, but there is no more excuses, they could turn the corner if things are handled right.

Great organizations make unpopular decisions all the time and aren’t worried about the backlash from it.

Belicheck is the best coach of all time, but is also the biggest a-hole and will do what’s best for the team at all times.

When the Sabres are serious about winning, Okposo will be the Captain of the Rochester Americans. Is it absolutely terrible what the player has gone through ? Absolutely, I wish nothing but the best for himself and his family health wise. From a business stand point, he is a crater on our cap hit.

JT Miller was a pretty good player they had to trade away.

What would the actual savings be sending him to Rochester? One more year at $6m and then his actual cost is $4m per year. Maybe a team trying to hit the floor would take him.

I believe they only save $1.05M per by sending him down. However it opens up a roster spot for Lazar as 4RW (or hopefully an upgrade).

They didn’t have to trade him. They chose to and he was already under contract.

The narrative that they’ll have to trade guys like Cirelli because they won’t be able to afford him never comes to fruition.

People said they’d trade Point, they signed him

People said they’d have to trade one of Stamkos or Kucherov and they signed them both within the last few years.

Most likely trade for Johnson for 50 cents on the dollar to make the room.

That’s all that would happen. Bye bye Johnson, palat, and McDonough

I’ve learned over the years that only dumb teams trade away their best players under normal circumstances

If Cirelli went to management and said he wanted to be “the guy” and eventually get paid like it then that’s a scenario where it happens

The only reason I think it may have steam now is that the cap is in limbo and the assets they could move aren't nearly as valuable as in the past. That and every player there apparently has a full NTC.

I still think they get it done in the end, but someone could totally rip them off for TJ

They couldn't have signed Point though without trading someone though. Kucherov and Point combined for $10m additional salary from what they were making last year. Add another $2m for Mcdonagh's raise and that put them at the cap.
No they didn't have to trade Miller, but they would have needed to trade someone.

cirelli would be my #1 trade target and if it can't be done, then i'd consider signing Granlund as a free agent using him and Johansson at center in the middle six...

I mentioned Vatrano a couple posts earlier, he'd be my #2 trade target

- Michael Pachla

No more Johansson at center. It's obvious he's a much better wing player.

They also got a 1st and 3rd round pick for Miller. It's not like they had to give him away.

He had a great start and great finish. He and Skinner were money early in the season. Johansson, Olofsson and Kuhan really clicked for the few games they were a line. Although he has his struggles at center, Johansson is a pro and when you continue to add talent in the top nine, he and his linemates have more of an opportunity to succeed

For this rather unprecedented season, I don't think that comes anywhere near the cost cutting they need in order to resign their RFA's.
50% of Johnson saves $2.75m per year... they need alot more , alot.

I'd take him. Anything Botts can do to keep, and add, talent to the top-9 should be done.

This is true and Mojo is signed through next year, so leverage him as such.

That said, I would move him at the TD, unless he is producing at a good clip and agrees to a reasonable contract extension for 2 or 3 years max. However, if they can't replace him in another year after the roster reconstruction they can't replace him with better, younger talent, then the team is in real trouble.

I dont know how many wins he actually adds and that 5 mil takes some future moves out of the equation.

Point taken. Didn't realize he's signed for 4 more years at that price. Changes my view.
