He's in a lose-lose situation. It was always going to be "that's it?" unless he donated like $10M. I'm just waiting for the "it's a write off anyway!" people.

just curious, what about china?
- Michael Pachla

Tough to get an actual number from them. But my point stands that higher numbers of people will have number of controlled cases when most variables are at least similar. I don’t think anyone would say China is close to European countries/US as far as that’s concerned.

your buddy gallysano making news...from Bloomberg:

The billionaire Tom Golisano was smoking a Padron cigar on his patio in Florida on Tuesday afternoon. He was worried.

“The damages of keeping the economy closed as it is could be worse than losing a few more people,” said Golisano, founder and chairman of the payroll processor Paychex Inc. “I have a very large concern that if businesses keep going along the way they’re going then so many of them will have to fold.”

“You’re picking the better of two evils,” said Golisano, who wants people to go back to their offices in states that have been relatively spared by the coronavirus, but remain at home in hot spots. “You have to weigh the pros and cons.”

U.S. now leads the world in coronavirus cases, overtaking China and Italy

Yikes wheres the" it's not serious people "
"Its just the flu"

- gerbe75pts

80,000 people died of the flu in the U.S. the winter of 2017/2018. 80 (frank)ing thousand.

Musta missed the quarentines then.

But you'll be all "but we dont have a vaccine for this!!" or something.

And even though the flu vaccine is routinely wrong for that year's flu......ill be like "yes...precautions were necessary, but this was all just too (frank)ing much for areas outside major cities."

And on and on we go.

Jesus this whole ordeal is tiresome.

All i know is that anyone who believes a thing out of China or the WHO is naive at best.

Yes its all a conspiracy...no way China would suppress evidence or silence whistle blowers. Its only a coincidence that the Chinese Military's top Bio-Weapon lab is located in Wuhan near the wet markets where this all started.

Oh...maybe its the WHO thing. You mean the WHO who praised the Chinese "transparency" during the initial outbreak? The WHO who alleged that coronavirus could't be transmitted from human to human?

The 80,000 deaths? Check the CDC's website.

EDIT: Ya know what pisses me off...trying to defend myself makes me sound like a (frank)ing crackpot, even though all of this is easily verifiable. But somehow it became cool to just accept anything the government and media tells you as fact.

They’ve done studies about the flu and the vaccine. It’s actually way more effective then most will give it credit for, especially in children. Children tend to cause the spread of illness way quicker then adults (for obvious reasons)

covid-19 is also 2-3 times more contagious than the flu

100% agree. And I totally get why people are more nervous about this given that there is no vaccine. But even Cuomo is now saying "oops...maybe we over-did it."

The scary thing is they put all these crushing restrictions in place and a large portion of the population cheered.

Sorry, wasn’t referring to covid at all. Also just had a baby, like last night, so got all the statistics from a doc (regarding the flu vaccine, not covid) and it’s studies. This due to a 2 year old germ bag at home

When Trump issued travel ban to reduce coronavirus in the states in late Jan

Biden said that “In moments like this, this is where the credibility of a president is most needed, as he explains what we should and should not do.”

“This is no time for Donald Trump’s record of hysteria and xenophobia, hysterical xenophobia, to uh, and fear mongering,” Biden continued.

I think many would rather over do it then under. But we also have to make sure there’s a semblance of normalcy to come to when this is all done.

i'm not discounting that...in fact I wouldn't put it past the Chinese to do almost anything...I wouldn't trust xi anymore than I would putin or long duk dong in n. korea or that salami guy in Saudi arabia or any other of the many shady characters running small countries or nation-states

I get what you're saying, but how do you shut down big cities, where incidentally, most of the business in the country happens, but open up the rest? Great, the Dakotas, Wyoming, and Montana are open for business yet New York, California, Texas, Illinois, and Florida are closed.

I'm not saying those places can't be re-opened soon, but that doesn't help the economy when half the population is still locked down.

There's no good answer, but you have to err on the side of saving lives and learning lessons from past mistakes.

Couldn't agree more. My biggest issue is that no one attempted to strike a balance. Society, commerce, and freedoms were just cut off overnight.

Yeah, all the experts are screaming "flatten the curve" for a reason. Most people are going to get this one way or the other, but you can't have everyone sick at once, or it's going to be worse than Italy.
