He's young still learning, JTM should get an A though. I've never had a problem with Sutter. - VanHockeyGuy
I have always liked Sutter. I thought his purpose was to ease Bo into a top center when Sedins left and Kes had already left.
I always felt he was a third line guy who was in a second line role.
I think he shielded Bo and so for me he met expectations. It is time to move on for him now. |

Okay so we're stuck with him. Maybe your organizational theory is better to have differing opinions in a management team instead of supporters of a plan.
But where is the trend going now such as more positives like JTM and less impacting misses like Ferland. Despite the ugly past its important that he's learned to make the team trend up. - NuckUp
IMO the system is more responsible for their upward trend than Jim Benning alone, I mean come on, it doesn’t take a genius to pick from the top of the entire draft.
Kevin Lowe, Craig McTavish and Peter Chiarelli collectively picked McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH, Taylor Hall, Nurse, Klefbom, etc. that doesn’t make them great GM’s.
Does Benning (and company) deserve credit for some great drafting, absolutely he does, but the hard part is building around those picks, something he just shoots from the hip with IMO and he’s (frank)ed up the cap flexibility while doing it. |

So do we keep the draft picks this year or not? - VanHockeyGuy
Yes if they have playoffs. Unknown scenarios on cancellation with lots in play. |

Francesco probably likes Benning because the buildings are full and the fan base is invested.
The merchandise is rolling off the shelves , team is in the playoff hunt and people are talking Canucks 365 days a year.
As far as the cap Chris Gear and Johnathan Wall are now handling things for the Canucks and over the last two years the contracts seem to be much better. - VANTEL
1) About the revenue increasing, I think that it goes to my point: it's always about now. Build a real contender and your sacrifice in short term revenue is recouped several times over when they are contenders (solid playoff team) like 2009-2013. When (if) the team stalls, like some of us think will happen, so will the revenue. Long term vs short term thinking.
2) The cap has been mismanaged because of bad contracts and signing the wrong players. Having better negotiators might take pressure off of some of Benning's incompetence but not all of it. Myers has a decent contract but a lot of us argued last season that his deficiencies are too much for this team. Even you acknowledge that he is a buyout candidate. And that's one year into his Canuck career. |

There’s a lot of moving parts and it’d take a book to comment on all of them, but you’re right, things take time. No ones debating that.
And trust me, a lot goes on in the room that you’ll never know or hear about regarding character guys, who’s learning and who’s teaching, strong personalities vs quiet guys, etc.
If I were the GM of the Canucks I’d say the same thing that was said about the 2015 team, this team is punching above their weight class. Something I don’t think Benning would ever say even behind closed doors.
Their poor play has been masked by great goaltending all year, the numbers will tell you that. I’d still be very much in the building phase with this group. At first I didn’t like the Miller trade, but in retrospect he’s been the Canucks second best player and a real leader in the room. That’s a win for JB.
I like the Toffoli trade because the team was so close to a playoff spot I felt like they deserved a shot at it. All that said, I still feel like they’re in over their heads with how they play and how they’re constructed. - Pacificgem
I don't look at it as punching above their weight class. They were top 10 in scoring.
They beat a lot of really good teams this year . They lost to some dogs.
They need to figure out what is going on in the back end , players and coaches.
Everyone said last summer they should be a bubble team. They were . I think they were close to where they were seen to be. I had them a little higher around 96 points but we will never know,

It’s not the 80’s or 90’s anymore though, you can’t out-score your defensive deficiencies without all-star goaltending. That’s not a recipe for playoff success.
Probably falls more on coaching than lineup though. |

Sure! I'm also interested in seeing if JB can make a creative deal which maybe gets us a high pick, or fill's another area of need like D. |

Erikssons contract is shameful. Of course everyone knows where I stand on it because he was brought in to extend the career of the Twins. Dumbest contract in Canucks history.
I have lots and lots of questions about Myers. Some nights great and some nights OMFG. I can't remember how I felt about his signing I think I was wait and see .
Believe it or not the older I get the calmer I get. I sit back now and enjoy the hockey and think they will figure it out.
As you know though I do like to add my two cents |

All things being equal Benn is a healthy scratch. Myers brings a really expensive 25 points to the table and hasn't exactly been a great defender. |

We're all just here shooting the sh!t and voicing our opinions. It just takes years for our opinions to be shown right or wrong. There's always going to be some stuff that goes right and some stuff that goes wrong day-to-day or month-to-month so that allows the daily discussion. That's why we're here. We all just want the team to win the cup. We just have different opinions on how to get there and whether certain management and/or players are the right ones to get the team there. |

Isn't TT and JTM plus Myers building around those picks?
What seems to have come out of the season is the young pieces have taken long strides up. Then you them saying they have lots of prospects that can make the team soon. Doesn't that signal they will get rid of some of the expensive crutches they brought in? Even force out old mistakes like LE that are now ripe to push away. |
