Not to be a Debbie Downer, i heard a doctor say this morning based on his math to save the most lives 3 months quarantine.
- BetweenTheDots

I was told back prior to Feb. 13th by someone who had it from higher ups in three different health areas that we needed at that date to stay home at least one month so we didn't spread it.

My three weeks at home have pasts with nio symptoms form my wife and my birthday trip to Disney Animal kingdom and their hotel and their Disney Studios the next day.

We get home and hear someone died (who had respiratory issues) after being there three days before us...so we do the right thing...stay the frank home, figure out the food order groceries but don't take a chance we could spread it as silent carriers (30% OF US are...)to the folks at the grocery store, at our volunteer jobs, or our group of friends.

I am not going to get on a soap box and spread blame (or the germs) but IF the MFs I knew were telling me as a friend, this is bad, here's what has been suggested, everyone in higher positions of power should have started the conversation with "I know this is going to sound unfeasible but our best bet to check this virus is by self quarantined yourself IF you can..."
If not you might unsuspectedly spread it or can get it because we DO NOT have it all figured out.
Be honest, before you call your money man and have him sell...go public.

Be calm. but the SERIOUSNESS of this should have not had to take late, and exaggerations and trying to look to "when it ends on THISDATE/that DATE"....people simply are not smart enough to see through the crisis with the average IQ in the 100's...LEAD them let them be mad just like your KID is when you say to not go near the edge of hill / cliff.

It took a very good friend basically spending 20 minutes on the phone on telling me NO, telling me why, and making me see and agree...

...not an easy task for our governors city council menbers, or executive leadership...but....my cousins being angry about the parks / beaches closed "when the stores are full of lines of seniors at risk from each other" is as pointless.
(THE funniest thing is my two cousins do not live in Chicago proper haven't for years as his ObiGyno Barrington masnsioned three marriages multi children ass wants to use social media to talk about the Chicago Mayor ? It is like men telling women what to do concerning their issues.)

Do some good.

Ask your neighbor if they need T P

or share your sugary soft drinks...it will make you healthy to skip the ones you gave your neighbors.
Make soup and share.

Turn the frreaking 24 hr new BS off and do some chores...

I washed my dirty filthy awnings that needed my last are to clean it three years ago!

Where I live I was active in Pack a sack, getting ten food items to kids on Fridays so there is something to eat if the household has an absence of food for whatever reason.

Now we have the items and we dont want them to go to waste...checking freshness dates etc. but the food Pantry closed for donations!

So I will try this week to get to the st. Pete free clinic.

Think about the folks in Africa sharing water from buckets DAILY and sharing a community toliet.

Think of the over 1800 children in my town of 275,000 who are basically living in aq car with their parent(s)...

I know my entitled white ass can jump in my BIG Swimming pool like I do everyday for all but 8 days since January, and easlily think about caring for my own, my kids grandkids, etc...and let it stop there.

We HAVE to dig deep in to our conscience grabbing on to this reality like we are the next to turn up daisies in October right before hockey starts...and try and rethink your words deeds and enjoy that new ozone layer for awhile...you can be better, I know I can!

Yeah crappy World Junior and unless you have a commitment to playing in the NHL ON YOUR TEAM, this all becomes risky business.

Call me hesitant mostly because he is a reverse catcher/ as a right shooter.

Everyone in front of him has adjust their on ice defensive positions and when the "other" goalie is playing, adjust to the old ways.

I liked Spencer Knight and I like him, and if you see goal as a weak spot for your farms development to a pro mule goaler, you take him if he is the best player.

Rossi and Perfetti and the guys I have higher are and I could make a case for my top 16 forwards maybe being better less risky alternatives

Thanks Wiz .Was just curious, and was glad to here what you thought . I really like that Rossi ,but think he will be gone before we pick .Unless we hit the lottery again .
My thinking on Askarov was we are building this great young D core who should be hitting their stride in 2 or 3 years ,right about when Askarov should be ready to challenge for starting role . .Timing everything when building a team ..

It os really difficult say where anyone goes...the scouting staffs haven't had the benefit of a third of this season and playoffs and the other prospects are close and there is a rather long list of close guys...

Not to be a Debbie Downer, i heard a doctor say this morning based on his math to save the most lives 3 months quarantine.

Baseball: Players pushed to receive a full year of service time, which counts days toward free agency, arbitration and pension, even in the event of a canceled season. When MLB agreed to grant that, the path to a deal coming together was forged, sources said.

Im thinking here in Illinois the gov will extend the stay at home order till May 1st, I'm hoping to see sports by September again, but then again as someone who would go to games here and there, i probably won't be going till next year.

Downloaded on xbox1, eanhl 20, last week, my wife's already starting to complain about how much time im playing video games, forgot how much fun and frustrating that game is

So if you think big money interests can wield enough lobbying or swsy to actually convince players and umpires and all employees to return to playing games, then next you should determine how many fans come to the games. When no innoculation yet. When the deaths and reports of those testing positive keep going up.

Will fans not go to games not just because they are shirt on cash but due to health concerns. Quarantines end but the reports will keep going up. For a few months at least How many of us are carriers. Maybe 35%. Within next few weeks a lot of us should worry if we were safe enough from the get go. Forecasting return date to sports right now is not just ludicrous; it is downright not possible to have an answer at all.

Completely agree, but i always argue you have several groups out there, and the most dangerous ones are the people in denial, or the ones that don't care about themselves. Sometimes these are the same people.

So like Wiz stated about being responsible and doing the responsible thing. Im on board i am around many elderly people, not now, but in real life and the last thing i want to do is be a carrier and hurt those around me.

So far today the only news that made me happy was the possibility of a buyout for next year. getting Seabs off the books and off the roster really open things up.

Kieth boquist
Dehann murphy
Koekke maata Carlson/ Mitchell.

At least that is a playoff level D.

Fee;s up money for Kubalik strome and CAgguila. and a goalie.

it Opens up a window were we can have 3 vets 7-8 young guys and 6-7 steady players.

Forecasting the return of sports gives people hope. Look at the Fed today predicting that 40 million plus Americans will soon be out of work. The longer this goes on the harder it will be to recover from. People are going to be in serious financial trouble.

I also understand the seriousness of this pandemic but Americans need to take responsibility for their own health. As a whole, the American population is extremely unhealthy. The majority of people that this is killing/having a serious health impact on are unhealthy Americans. Yes some healthy people are becoming ill and dying as well but most have serious underlying health issues. Maybe this acts as a wake up call to the population as a whole. The number one defense to this virus is a person immune system.

Side note...I went to a closing this morning (for whatever reason attorneys in Illinois are considered "essential"). I saw a gentleman going into a closing that had to be in his late 60s touch multiple door handles and elevator buttons. Never sanitized/washed his hands and touched his face at least 3 times. That was only during the short period I saw him.

Wtf is wrong with some people?

I was cooler on Dacher because he was more of a pass first centre and I thought that Cozens who is btw a solid citizen, character kid was more of the gun they needed.

Let's Dylan fills the space the AWOL Casey Mittelstadt, who announced at the redraft testing you didn't need to do reps and Voc to play hockey....didn't.

What you are saying is that people should have healthy concern for their own health as well as for all people. We are all part of a community after all. Unfortunately some people need to be scarred or have a ton of bricks fall at theiir feet in order to shape up. That is, their attitude is careless until it hits home.

As I said in a post above, there are different groups of people and the demographic they likely will paint through their actions and or beliefs is a harmful reality to not only themselved but everyone

We have to rely upon our leaders to be smart and look after the correct interests in the correct order. Some leaders are smart, some are self centered. Some leaders know how to stay out of the battle between leaders and let them battle it out. I hope our leader is smart enough to lead us down the right road here on out. There could be a new leader of the country next year but until then we operate under the influence of the decisions and action of our current leader.

I have some ideas how to corral unhealthy behavior of careless and those unwillingly or not easily able to do the right things in this unprecedented time in world history. Historical lessons include a crisis had to get bad enough before it can be solved. Which probably happens in the world -
it just here in our country - whenn this sort of health crisis arises. Sadly I expect it will be for the most part the same countries or situations with whatever countries whom have workers bring the virus or health malady and America will suffer as much or worse than any other country.

Some people express terrorism is behind the health crisis and others think it is the result of health issues gone bad and the purposeful political with economic ramifications between some of the world's leaders. And it impacts our lives. Which included hockey

As for the lighter side ..yes sports can be a mechanism for tmporary release of our human condition

I have this idea that the economic impact of Corona on NHL is a streamlined or reduced salary cap at least the first season or text play resumes. There will continue to develop a schism of salary difference between the highest and a growing amount of the lower paid players. Teams should concentrate on the best 5 man units so that a potential weak spot - let us say Maata (skating) or kids on defense (inexperienced) does not oomrpromiise too much the team's overall success in terms of Victories and a playoff berth

I could imagine more puck pursuit with greater amount of grittiness and checking among the forwards. This would be true particularly on bottom two lines. I would be glad if Saad stays and Dach develops as predicted. I suggest a blueline crew with a lot of kids is supported by that lineup and that approach.

The problem is many many many people are in serious financial trouble already, that's the rub, even in so called great economic times 75% of working Americans are living check to check. Just cause this market, sounds like works for us, it doesn't for so many others. But i learned the hard way, Y2K and 9/11. Market will rebound but it'll take a while like it did after the housing crash.

Regarding the 60 yr old, that's exactly what I'm talking about, denial

Thanks for the blog Tyler. Hope everyone is safe and healthy.

Even if this extended "semi-quarantine" has just been extended "only" until the end of April, this is going to effect daily life including sports in a tremendous way. The average small business has cash on hand for 16 days, even if their employees are furloughed. Even if we are "up and running" (which I doubt) by May 1, the damage to the economy is immense, not only for the small business owner, but for the person who works paycheck to paycheck.

Yes the suites will still be sold, the one's that can afford the premium seats will still go back, but who else will be able to afford to go to a game, let alone some having to cut their cable bill, or at least their premium subscription to get NHL.com or another sport specific station you enjoy? How many will be able to buy their teams favorite players authentic jersey, or other sport paraphernalia? Is there going to be continued interest in a sport if it is too expensive to play?

Is there going to be social distancing in stadiums? For how long? Will you have the amenities like bars/restaurants/vendors in the stadiums?

My long winded post is obviously the salary caps of leagues (NBA, NHL) are going to be adjusted, downward, if not significantly downward. How are the leagues and players going to deal with that? We haven't talked about a strike/lockout in a while, but I can see one coming when the new CBA is up 21-22.

- LAHawk

Could be a boon for the NHL. Without people going to the games in person but still wanting to see the sports, it gives them a lot of leverage to get a better TV deal \ deals which is where the money is. The reliance on ticket sales is one of the NHL's bigger weaknesses.

Thanks for the constant updates Tyler.

During this time of no sports...it is great to have a little something to keep us plugged in. Appreciate your efforts.

I sure hope they CAN come to some agreement with Mitchell.

A young D-corp of Mitchell, Beaudin & Boqvist....along with Carlsson & Vllasic gives one some hope of a pretty solid 6, even if 2-3 years down the road.

We had to stockpile youth....Starting to like what lies ahead....

Hey Ty, another great write up and thanks for keeping the chatter up with not much going on.

Also, I’ll second your nod to the Athletic. In addition to the piece on Mitchell, there’s a great Q&A today with fan questions for the Rat, good old #36, Bolly.

Watching the 2014 WC Final makes me hate Leddy all over again. The great skater couldn't beat Williams to the puck to give the Kings life. Let alone the complete mess he made of the OT goal.

Wanna know what his teammates thought of that play? Watch it in slo-mo and check out the look Rozy gives him at the end of the play.

I know it is from Ek, but "begin your Seabrook buyout calculations.... now":

I was talking to some NHL people over the weekend and there is a rumor going around that if the NHL doesn’t return this season, and the cap stays flat, teams will be awarded one “mulligan buyout” which would allow them to essentially buy out one of their current contracts as per usual, however, the entire contract would then be off the salary cap moving forward. So no penalty at all. Even over 30 contracts. This would really help teams out and generate cap space to allow teams to make signings this summer and also put more UFAs into the marketplace. Really a win/win and a way of essentially opening up cap space without raising the cap.

- Chunk

Why would we assume the buyout would be used on Seabrook? Buying out Toews would be the more fiscally responsible move, not to mention the better hockey decision. This team cannot build a contender while paying their 3C $10.5 million.

$10.5 could be used towards re-signing Strome, Kubalik, The Drake, Saad, Nylander, Boqvist and Beaudin when their respective contracts are up.

If Toews was a true captain, he'd re-sign with the team for $1 million/season after being bought out.

We can better spend that money on grit, we need grit and fighters, that will get us the next cup. Maybe trade for Lucic for starters. We also need Seeler and Gilbert as part of our D, then nobody will mess with us.

Leddy lost his stick on that play and the goal was an unfortunate bounce. In fact all 5 Kings goals that game were aided by incredibly lucky bounces. The Hawks, after being outplayed the majority of that series, played their best game of the series in that legendary game 7...had more shots, more chances, etc....just wasn’t meant to be.

Such a fascinating series. The Hawks WILLED their way to those wins in games 5 and 6. LA clearly looked like the better team up until that game 7, with the exception of the 1st period of game 2.

Using Keith/Seabrook as an example, they came up as a pair in 05/06, and it took 4 years with them in the NHL before the Hawks even made the playoffs. Granted, I think they have more forward talent now than then, but it might be another year before they even make it back to the post-season.
