We can better spend that money on grit, we need grit and fighters, that will get us the next cup. Maybe trade for Lucic for starters. We also need Seeler and Gilbert as part of our D, then nobody will mess with us.
- Angotti

If Gilbért and Seeler àre playing in your top six then do not expect to move puck out of our end efficiently. Won't win much.Gilbert has coverage isdues.

Look at Detroit gàme right after the Edm late season contest. There was a decidingly different set of dmen vs Detroit due to Injuries. We couldn't get puck out of our own end We barely generated semblance of àn attack. Gilbert had a bad game.

While I agree we need more grit and it would help to have a legitimate heavyweight fighter who could play hockey too, getting this from those two is not worth it. Neither is good enough to sustain playing time. Need to develop our own, draft newbies or sign the kind of players you mentioned.

Any validity to Eklund’s rumor of another buyout with no cap penalty due to COVID-19 induced revenue losses & cap stagnation???

Why would we assume the buyout would be used on Seabrook? Buying out Toews would be the more fiscally responsible move, not to mention the better hockey decision. This team cannot build a contender while paying their 3C $10.5 million.

$10.5 could be used towards re-signing Strome, Kubalik, The Drake, Saad, Nylander, Boqvist and Beaudin when their respective contracts are up.

If Toews was a true captain, he'd re-sign with the team for $1 million/season after being bought out.

- DarthKane

In all seriousness do you ever think you will see these names: Strome, Kubalik, The Drake, Saad, Nylander, Beaudin, and I'll add Dinky, engraved on the SC without players better than them on the team?

Only that "Anything is possible." The glove didn't fit OJ's hand.

I’m looking at CapFriendly - if I’m reading it correctly (and I might not be) - it looks like it will cost Rocky $17,666,667 (the remaining Signing Bonuses of $12MM plus the Buyout Cost of $5,666,667).

Rocky is certainly no $Bill, but I think he would certainly think more than twice about spending that kind of money AND then spending up to whatever the cap is going forward.

Especially after taking a big hit for this lost season, and perhaps another one of limited revenues next year. The Rocky apple didn’t fall THAT far from the $Bill tree.

I wouldn’t be too sure that Seabrook would be the chosen one....

Agreed. Toews is the more likely buyout candidate.

Leddy lost his stick on that play and the goal was an unfortunate bounce. In fact all 5 Kings goals that game were aided by incredibly lucky bounces. The Hawks, after being outplayed the majority of that series, played their best game of the series in that legendary game 7...had more shots, more chances, etc....just wasn’t meant to be.

Such a fascinating series. The Hawks WILLED their way to those wins in games 5 and 6. LA clearly looked like the better team up until that game 7, with the exception of the 1st period of game 2.

From where I sat two of those LA goals were offside. It reinforced (yet again) in my mind the need for replay. Which of course the NHL made a joke of when they finally made it a rule. I like the break the plane rule as it should make it easier to call and save a lot of replay time.

As well he should be - $10.5 for a questionable 3rd-line center - but at $18.2MM, he would be even more expensive than Seabrook.

Off-side or not, let’s not forget that the Hawks led that game 2-0, 3-2 (after the first), 4-3 (going into the third) - and lost.

I like coach Q, but i cringed any time Leddy was on the ice in the 3rd period and OT, the outcome for sure sucked. To win 2015 with Rozy going down and Oduya virtually playing 1 armed vs Bolts was truly amazing.

Yes but if both those offside calls were made doesn’t that mean there’s no LA comeback and a Hawk victory?

by all accounts Teows is good on faceoffs and solid on D. that said only 30 centers this year had 50 or more points. Teows had 60 which puts him in the top 20. So if you figure a AVG 1 center would make 8 mil he is over paid by 2.5 mil. Seabs is 3rd line D or 7th D. which would make 1-2 mil So he is over paid by 5 mil per year and is signed 1 year longer then teows kane and keith. He must have some photos of somebody on Madison LOL.

Another way to look at it is replacement. If Teows moves on Strome would be his replacement at probably $4 mil per year. if Seabs moves on his replacement is keok at 1 mil per year.

That was pretty amazing. People like to minimize Rozy but he looked pretty good in the MN series before getting hurt and definitely would have helped stabilize a third pair that at any given time had Kimmo, Rundblad, Cumiskey, and a banged up TVR.

Had he not been coming off 2 different injuries, I think TVR and Rozy would have been fine as a third pair, but with Rozy out and JO and TVR banged up...

While they were pretty loaded at forward, just think that Cup series was a perfect example of a veteran group knowing how to win.

Well Darth’s not actually serious...so there’s that.

Toews performance is still too important to the team and with some growth in the games of 17 and 77 would give them a pretty good 1,2, 3 down the middle.

Actually Darth has an interesting concept. Does a team like Toronto buyout a Taveras or a Willy Nylander (11mil and 7mil respectively) in order to give them cap flexibility?

I agree, thought for sure when Oduya went off the ice and even came back to play we were going to lose that series.

I often imagine how crazy this board would be if game 7, Hjalmarsson go ahead goal is disallowed in the 3rd period because they hand out 2 minor penalties, the one for Saad because he's laying with his back on the ice taking punches to his face, and the Red Wings win the game in OT.

Im just grateful that we were finally the team to get bounces in so so so so many playoff games, when in double and triple OT.

Late 80's early 90's this was not the case.

You're good at math. Two bogus goals in a one goal loss. And I used to see at least a half dozen missed offside calls a game. And once in a while it would make a difference.

Linesman is the toughest job in sports. Big guys moving fast make it tough to see. The only thing that hasn't grown is the size of the rink. And I think it was Elbows that made a great point that they used to be able to grab the top of the glass and pull themselves up on the dasher to help get out of the way. But the glass is too high these days. And I know same for both teams bla bla bla.. But offside is offside and not a judgement call. And the hawks were victimized that game and it was clear from where I sat. The league has to get this right, just like a puck crossing the goal line.

untrue due to the injury recovery surgeries...he lingers until HE agrees to what the term wants to happen, but that will be stretched out while he is used in the Cap chess game...

Me too.

Something like that has to be easy to view because the human factor has become less superior to electronics as the players are faster and the ice seems more crowded to see across the line.

Maybe add Boquist and Mitchell... Somebody with an outside view of the Hawks in Ek's column thought Keith should be the buyout player. Toews isn't what he once was, who's the goalie?

I was at that game and just the thought of it still makes me mad. That game was gifted to the King's by the refs. Oh God I just sounded like PE...😅
