You guys aren't wrong about the death tolls and numbers but the real problem with this novel corona virus is the sheer amount of people getting infected and needing oxygen tanks and hospital beds - the Hospitals are overwhelmed and don't have enough supplies or rooms.

I agree - The powers that be are using this to implement a lot of things - Capitalism is changing before our very eyes and borders are closing, people are being told to social distance... It's 1984, it's Soviet Russia, it's a shift in Global Economics and we are missing the bigger picture.

Paul Hamilton got laid off ...... many here weren’t fans of his. He actually was a good interview during the off-season. He would give tid bits / inside info about players and the team

The thing that worries me the most is if another virus comes along in a decade from now, we're going to go through this charade all over again, even if the results are less severe. Hell, it may not even take a virus, just some overblown gang on a crime spree. We're a country of precedent. We were told to stop working, stay at home and do nothing for an inordinate amount of time, and we as a society ate it up, so much so that if anyone gave a dissenting opinion, they got shouted down, particularly by the Social Media Mob. And as a result, our economy has come to a complete stop. Don't think that the people with enough power and influence aren't taking notes.

Just read that the USA is 4.25% of the worlds population, and we have 25% of the worlds COVID-19 cases.

Just a bang up job by this country in handling this.

- sbroads24

It's a combination of government and society. There are just a certain amount of people in this country that won't stay put unless they're absolutely forced to. It's human nature. If the US or any country really wanted to "stop the spread", it would declare martial law for 3-4 weeks, and that would cause other problems.

Nothing EVER?

While a monovalent (H1N1)pdm09 vaccine was produced, it was not available in large quantities until late November—after the peak of illness during the second wave had come and gone in the United States. From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.

Additionally, CDC estimated that 151,700-575,400 people worldwide died from (H1N1)pdm09 virus infection during the first year the virus circulated.** Globally, 80 percent of (H1N1)pdm09 virus-related deaths were estimated to have occurred in people younger than 65 years of age. This differs greatly from typical seasonal influenza epidemics, during which about 70 percent to 90 percent of deaths are estimated to occur in people 65 years and older.

Though the 2009 flu pandemic primarily affected children and young and middle-aged adults, the impact of the (H1N1)pdm09 virus on the global population during the first year was less severe than that of previous pandemics. Estimates of pandemic influenza mortality ranged from 0.03 percent of the world’s population during the 1968 H3N2 pandemic to 1 percent to 3 percent of the world’s population during the 1918 H1N1 pandemic. It is estimated that 0.001 percent to 0.007 percent of the world’s population died of respiratory complications associated with (H1N1)pdm09 virus infection during the first 12 months the virus circulated.

What's striking about that post you responded to is the complete disregard for the fact China grossly underreported their cases by a factor of 10-40x. That many countries (Russia, India, the whole of Africa etc.) either can't, haven't, or won't report their cases. Just another example of some peoples narrow minded thinking and manipulation of facts

Terms like “boomer” wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for older generations constantly putting down the youngest ones
