Magic Gus? - CamRusselsJock
Was thinking the same. Where would this Toronto fan rate Gustafsson on his all-decade defencemen team if he was a Leaf based on his single year stats last season. |

That weed up there must be really good. - Angotti
Except it's 100 correct. Keith wasn't anything special until ages 25+. It was much more of a late bloomer than Rielly. |

In the defensive end, if not its damn close, they both aren't very good playing actual defense - BetweenTheDots
So how is Leddy better? LOL. Talk about underrating Rielly. |

When? When they were 12 years old?
The only thing that is comparable between the 2 is that both were on teams that missed the playoffs in their first 3 NHL seasons. Keith was never a double digit minus player like Rielly who managed to accomplish that in each of his first 4 years.
One guy has 126 playoff games under his belt, 3 Cups, 2 Norris Trophys and a Conn Smythe.
Nobody gives a f$ck about one 72 point regular season on a team that gets dismissed in the first round of the playoffs by the big bad Bruins. - RickJ
So +/- counts apparently more than any other stat that says Rielly was better?

Yea it's a bit of a stretch, i would take Reilly over Leddy, but no way over Keith in his prime, it's not even close LOL |

To be clear, I never stated Rielly was better than Keith at his best.
Rielly is without a doubt a true #1 D. |

You think players should be punished for getting an education and then making an informed decision on what and where to live their lives? You seem smart. - GPHawksfan
I'm just blowing off steam because a player reportedly choose to see if he could sign with another team. It is allowed. He might have developed into a descent dman but now if that happens it is likely with another team. Your reputation on this board remains intact. I knew I was setting myself up for your wise remark. If it makes you happy go ahead and clap your hands and by all means you might take a picture of your big grin over this and do paste it on this site. You're a swell fella and pretty smart too! |

Leddy isn't better. Leddy is similar to Jake Gardiner, all kinds of potential but has no interest in playing or even learning to play defense. Reilly is good but Keith is better. To be fair to Reilly he doesn't have a Sebrook and a Hjalmersson helping him on the blueline and he doesn't have forwards buying into a defensive system to help the defense. |

That is correct.
But we may never see Reilly's true potential if the team defensive structure isn't fixed. Trading scoring chances with the opposition each night doesn't exactly showcase how good a defenseman can be.

That's a big myth. Goaltending and injuries was their #1 issue this season. |

Thanks for the shoutout, Theo, dealing with NCAA players who graduated. I do wish Zach Hyman was a hawk. If D.C. isn't coming back, I'd like to add him. |

What does goaltending issues or injuries have to do with the fact the Leafs play a wide open game trading chances with the opposition on most nights? The Leafs are an elite offensive team and a second rate defensive team. Only a Leaf fan will call it a myth that their team ranks in the bottom third in goals against. |

I just find it funny no one wants to discuss goaltenmding.

After he declined to wear the #9 old man Wirtz wanted to wear. Dale said something to the affect of "I can feel the pressure already". |

You've been railing on Andersen for a while now.
GAA his three years in ANA:
2.29, 2.38, 2.30
GAA his four years in TOR:
2.67, 2.81, 2.77, 2.85
What changed? The team in front of him and how they play? Or did he suddenly start drinking suck juice? You cannot say that TOR plays a defensively sound game. They have a tremendous offense. Their D is lacking. Fix that and you have an elite team. Keep doing the same thing, and you will get 1st/2nd round exits.
It's the same thing that happened to the Hawks. I'm not saying this was causal, but when CHI brought on Panarin, they scored a ton, but their D was brutal. Result: a first round ouster and a humiliating loss the next year.

PFFFT ... Reilly better than Keith? ... yeah right. We all know the only stat that matters is scoring so let me just lay this on ya: Keith career scoring average = 0.53 pts/gm, whereas Reilly is only 0.52 pts/gm. So there you have it. The dispute has been resolved.
BTW: Leddy = 0.42 pts/gm ... so yeah ... |
