Many medical, scientific, and other people with more knowledge than most (and all with more credibility than our President) are saying that it is very possible that sports seasons won’t get back before next year - even football won’t open this fall.

Could be a lot of days without hockey.

Of course you’d be the one to present the possibility of a worst case scenario. It’s in your blood.

Shaw type maybe, too tough for his size? Hits at that tenacity and size take their toll?

- vabeachbear

Quite possibly. Shaw and Caggiula are cut from the same cloth in that regard and so could Soderlund if he's not careful.

Soderlund is really good at the reverse hit (not sure if that's what it's really called). As an opponent is barreling down on him, Soderlund turns his back, braces himself, and sends the opponent flying or down on his keister.

Reverse hits like that, especially from a "shrimpy" player like Soderlund, really pisses off the opposition. Soderlund rejoins the play after the reverse hit while the player who got the bad end of the stick tries to retaliate in anger.

Sad that this is fact...and no matter how you sliced it, with fake animated Nascar races airing and the Football draft to be the big ta do soon for ratings, it seems very clear that after this next 30 days, that you, and me (and my wife who has not left the house since we returned from Disneyworld on March 10th) may finish the summer unfazed by the virus and maybe the 1000s of bozos still in the grocery (and liquor) stores with out ANY protection, or moderation are completely and utterly as stupid as the ones that refused to heed and act upon the facts and warning signs and will pass this on....maybe the rest of us WILL MAKE a difference and flatten the curve some, but honestly, do any of you think since we didn't get it yet, and we haven 't seen vaccines yet, that we are going to go out to a sporting event until there is a zero deaths in three weeks announcement where we live?

Sure, these same people out there now not heeding any warnings(and believe me I am not ripping the heroes in the grocery stores stocking those shelves, the people doing all these essential jobs and having to be among the sick) THEY may be ready to jump out there and go see the hawks and the untested silent carrier who is next to therm at the sporting event, but you gotta think, all sports seasons are over.

Role players like 1)Soderlund and 2) Barrett a pest with a mouth who has a physical checking part to his game....they stand out not only as the ultmate warrior, but also they have a more skill game than some run of the mill bottom line guys. Yet they're not quite a top line offensive player.

Actually Barrett the passer thinks the game so well and can score too. He does have a choppy stride which could hold him back. That skating issue is what ii I have been chirping about insofar as ultimately I have to wonder if both a Barrett and a Strome successfully play with descent TOI in same lineup

Should those guys and the Entwhistle, Hagel,Fortin + Kurshaev crowd graduate, you employ and see strong parts each has in their game. Our bottom lines would outperform the opponents line. Or neutralize their top lines.

I picture the 2010 team with Bolland, Eager, Burrish, Bourque etc al and OMG Big Buff in front of Luongo.

I realize we need these prospects to emerge. I realize we need these skill dmen prospects to emerge with a good all around game. Then their puck moving will stand out. Next our five man units out perform even a more talented opponent"s five man unit. Each game we can now win when our bottom lines are better.

This is maybe a better break down and much shorter/concise an explanation, AEL_FOX. Previously my blogs sometimes do get long winded.

Washington Post..... Yikes! That is part of the “fake news “ media . Most of the Nobel laureate epidemiologist such as Dr. Levitt and Dr. Bhakdi think this corona virus will be controlled in the near future... it’s the public panic and job statuses that will take a long time to recover. Let’s be optimistic!

What isn’t “Fake news” Fox? The “real news” media Fox who three weeks ago were Reporting COVID19 was a hoax?

The U.S are on track to get hit harder than any country in the world and it didn’t have to be that way. After the 2013 Ebola epidemic the previous administration left behind a pandemic response team, a funded CDC and helped fund the World Health Organization, plus they created a epidemic/pandemic playbook. This administration disbanded the response team, defunded the CDC and cut the USA’s funding to the World Health Organization and seemingly never bothered to review the playbook. Then this administration and Fox News denied the virus was happening and when they finally did admit it, they were more concerned with playing politics than to fighting the virus. And to top it off your President doesn’t allow science and health experts drive the solution, relying instead on his gut, his feelings, Fox News commentators and miracles.

We in Canada have a quarter the number of Coronavirus related deaths per capita as the US. What did Canada do differently? Our three political parties put aside petty politics and banded together to fight for Canada. The governing Liberal party allowed the science and health experts run the show. And they implemented the countermeasures earlier.

Yes. Time for me to wear a wrapped cloth ( a tshirt) around my mouth for the mask when in the store.
On a hockey note since we were talking Kyle Calder the great 5th round pick...made me think (uh oh... I know)...who was a draft pick that provided the most impact relative to least hype? Calder would be pretty high I would think however he didnt play that many years here

The closest to what you are asking about are likely Brouwer (7th round), Byfuglien (8th), and Burish (9th) as they were taken much later than the 5th round.

However, they likely started getting notice once they got to the AHL, at least Brouwer and Byfuglien. Burish had a pretty good NCAA career at Wisconsin.

The bolded is the critical part. Bottom 6 players are a dime a dozen but the best ones who help teams compete and be championship caliber are the ones who can execute under pressure, make plays with limited time and space, process the game quickly, and contribute in ways that may not necessarily dent the scoresheet.

Soderlund and Barratt could fit this mold and be key cogs in the future. Entwistle, Kurashev, and Hagel, too. Sikura could if he got a fair shake but think he may be edged out and have to find his opportunity in another organization.

I also think that Altybarmakyan may surprise. He plays with great dynamism and energy that could be exciting to watch.

The Trump administration has a top player whom is not a winner, not a champion of any kind. He fits the definition of the Peter principal. Look that up, Google it under society link if you are unfamiliar with this term

Paul's remarks speak volumes about the craziness and assinine leadership of this country. Trump is a dubouis mess. Putin laughs at him, watches him screw up a lot of situations. Trump was good for the stock market and I believe a lot of evangelicals bad mouth his social grace but voted for him because he is good for the economy. To be sure, I mean the economy of the country and their own bank account. He might get re-elected despite himself. Fox news wouldn't be reporting fake news if he is re-elected Well we all get judged if you know what I mean

I think Crawford has at least two years left as an NHL elite caliber goalie.
