The flaw I see a lot is people saying Marner is overpaid and comparing his cap to the other RFGAs who SIGNED FOR 2-3 YEARS!!
A guy like Laine will ask for the moon within a year. More than Mitch makes. - RogerRoeper
Mitch being overpaid is the stupidest myth to ever come out of Leafs Nation.
When Willy came onto the team, he brought millions of horny young girls into the fold, and sadly, they start these narratives that so many fans got swept up in.
I’ve never seen anything as disgusting in my life, as when so many fans slandered Mitch all summer. And it was spearheaded by jealous Nylandians. |

Nope. He got fair market value.
And they attacked him mercilessly all summer long, before he got his contract. Don’t be silly, he doesn’t have the cult following that Nylander does. Millions of 14yr old girls don’t tweet about Marner nonstop. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Fair market value that no one in his position has ever gotten? Literal millions more than market value.
Yes, he's a great player and the Leafs are very lucky to have him. I ain't arguing that at all. Never will, either. Doesn't change the fact that he's vastly overpaid, though.
Again, he got attacked for the reports that the muppet was telling people that the agent was leaking to the media. And people had every right not to like the numbers being told. Just like people didn't like the numbers being told when Nylander was up for a new contract. The only difference is that Nylander got a lot less than the fake rumors suggested and Marner actually got it.
Instead of both being well overpaid, only one is. |

How much should a 94 pt line-driving winger, who plays exceptional defence and took a 6 year deal make?
He’s not at all overpaid.

The cap hits of our stars are so overhyped. It a compliance buyout of 1 player is awarded, we have no one to buy-out. Our cap is in great shape.

What did anyone say that was so horrible?
Leafs drafted amazing players, but you have to pay them. He’s better than Tavares, but got paid less. So go attack JT.

Nylander is a good player.
However, he's Toronto's 5th most important FW (after Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Hyman).
Yes, Hyman brings more to this team than Nylander, because (PP) scoring and assists (Nylanders prime attributes) are already covered by Matthews, Marner, Tavares.
(and yes, of course Nylander has more value in a trade than Hyman - but that's a different issue).

I'd say 4th, but it speaks to how good we are when Willy is 4th or 5th best. ASnd people say Leafs don't have depth LOL |

Considering he was boosted in his 3rd season, after two consecutive seasons of similar production, playing with the Leafs best player that season and all world centre? |

Why can’t we just be allowed to be frustrated Marner got 11 million?
4 million more than Nylander is a lot....the gap is much smaller than that. |

If we were assemble a Team Canada roster rn.. Marner would be on McDavid’s wing.
Mitch is so much more than a pt producer.
10.5 will be a bargain in a couple years, it’s already fair rn. |

If you want to say Willy is underpaid, fine. But he wasn’t when he signed that deal. Mitch got what he deserved. |

We are upset because he didn't take a deal where he is 30% underpaid.
No, seriously. |

That's irrelevant, though.
This is a contract that was after his entry level contract. Where he went 61 points, 69 points, and then 94. The big jump was playing with JT. Getting $11M (almost) out of entry level is insane.
Will it be good going forward? If the CAP goes up it won't be a problem (having a player like Marner will never be a problem, so that's not what I'm saying). But it'd sure as poop be better if it was even close to where it should be. |

Know what’s irrelevant? Acting like they had any clue that the pandemic would happen, and the cap would go down.
Mitch is not overpaid. Especially considering he took 6 years. His point production went up playing with better players, like how Bozak and JVR’s production went up playing with Mitch. |
