bolded is the canadian/european reply.

Below the US reply:

A phone call is annoying, but people just using their phone as a boom box in public is on a whole other level. I want to start carrying cheap firearms with me and just tossing some bullets to these (frank)in balloonheads.

Lol yeah seriously

Surprised Trump hasn't tried to nuke the virus

It's called being a low-functioning alcoholic. The guy behind that guy with a full cart is a high-functioning alcoholic.

So according to Dr. Peter Donnelly, President of Public Health:

If we did nothing, approx. 100,000 Ontarians would have died.

With what we are doing, it will be anywhere from 3,000 to 15,000.

There will be a whole heckuvalotta people who will question whether it is responsible to torch the economy to save 85,000 people.

Don't shoot the messenger here, folks.

- Atomic Wedgie

100,000 is ridiculous because the scenario would never happen.

People really need to listen to these numbers and then THINK.

What, for example, is the point of showing a graph of cumulative number of cases so that the slope looks terrifying. a graph of diagnosed cases day today would be A) more meaningful (especially expressed as a % of # of tests and B) show a FAR lower slope.

There is really only 2 answers... We either have people in charge who have never had to create and defend useful metrics OR we are reporting meaningless stuff because the goal is to scare people to stay safe. I suspect some of both is going on.

If you can afford to blow several hundred dollars on a single beer run then that's pretty high functioning

worldwide deaths since November when this started... 58,000+ deaths,
1 million+ cases.

The Ontario Scare numbers are 300,000 cases and 100,000 deaths.

33% dead, huh?

Yeah, they put a disclaimer on it, but they know full well people will have 300,000 and 100,000 in their heads.

Ridiculous.

Fits the profile of a guy driving around and drinking them. Will be back for more later. Well... won't be stopped for an open case in the vehicle, most likely. Lots of mints on hand too.

My full size booze fridge is chock full. In fact, I don’t have enough room for all the booze. This is a result of my obsessive need to get things done early, in case something pops up. I bought enough booze to host a multiple birthday party event with 28 people attending. Of course you know what happened next. I am currently on a pace of one tall can every 2 days, because I am trying to be good. I caught myself complaining about all the beer and alcohol in the fridge because I had no room to put in the 2 giant salads we just bought.
I am afraid of what I have become.

Doug Ford has been good... basically saying Ontario will never again have to rely on other countries for needs.

Who knows if that reality will come to pass, but I like the sentiment. He is basically giving a big F-you to Trump.

You sound like Trump. Some people (certainly not me) think that maybe a whole bunch of dead people are worth it to save a few more Footlockers.

I think it's more for the idiots who still have birthday parties or go to the park and have their kids play on equipment.

They are also justifying why things need to be closed for as long as they are - even though it hurts many financially.

I don't see it as trying to instill panic. But they are trying to make sure EVERYONEs eyes are wide open. And we all know the News Media WILL ask for those specific numbers if not volunteered - and also ask why the Govt is hiding them.

Schools are closed in Sweden.
People mostly working at home since 4 weeks.
Nurseries however are still open somehow.

People in Sweden tend to be socially responsible as in they proactively take the right measures and do not need governments putting rules/fines in place.

In addition, Swedes are not as socially close (children not playing as much with friends after school etc.) as people in Spain, Italy etc.
And surely the weather in Sweden in March (at or below freezing point) surely helped people not socializing a lot but just staying at home / work (so limited contacts).

In other words: it is very difficult to point out what works and why things have worked not worked - because every country and even every region is different..

- MaximusAurelius

Only universities.

They are keeping schools for the kids open:

I also read that Sweden has been relatively untouched by disaster and upheaval for a couple hundred years. They reacted differently than their Scandinavian neighbours, who can't say the same. Some in Sweden fear they are about to get a rude awakening.

Lol...after this case, and the next case, there's only one case left!

There'll be a new question on alcohol self-assessments: have you ever risked contracting a life-threatening bat virus in order to get alcohol?

After I move into the new place, I'm going to have two fridges in the basement. One is going to be full of beer and liquor *all the time*.

The other I'm converting into a dry ager fridge which will be full of beef *all the time*
