It’s at 20% vs recovered now, which I think is super scary. - Woderwick

Kickass day for the USA again today. Rockin’ it bigly.
France isn’t messing around anymore. Second 4 digit day in row.
Was just notified yesterday that a large convention we attend in the USA every year in July, is still on. People from all over the world to attend, with most coming from the hardest hit countries. They announced it, THE SHOW WILL GO ON!!! Register now!

My brother just called.
He was going up to my parents' house to drop off some stuff.
Caught my 85 year old father at the local grocery store. |

My dad went out for cigarettes and beer yesterday. If he does it one more time before July I will murder him myself. |

My 87 year old Dad has shopped more now than he ever has. He went to 5 retailers looking for wipes to wipe off his steering wheel, light switches and door knobs. Then with no luck, he went to the LCBO to buy higher than 40 proof booze to use as a sanitizer. Today he is getting his tires changed. Called the garage 4 times harassing them into doing it for him, cuz IT HAS TO GET DONE NOW.
He has diabetes, vascular, and kidney issues. I told him “It’s a poopty way to go dad, and we can’t come and see you before you go...we can’t even have a funeral for you. We’ll have to leave you curb side on garbage day.” |

I've resorted to picking up groceries for my in-laws. They are both in their late 70's. |

My dad lives 2 hours away. My sister is going to see him tomorrow after self isolating for two weeks after a coworker tested positive. She never got tested. That visit should probably finish him off. Thick European sommana’ female doges. |

Ridiculous
Even if cases are decreasing and we have turned the corner by then, it certainly doesn't mean we are in the clear.

All good, just 2 days. Lolol
Wife's grandfather turned 100 in Nov. The virus would wipeout half the NS population if it got out of control. My mother is 86.. |

Only universities.
They are keeping schools for the kids open:

My dad lives in Delhi, Ontario. If age is the deciding factor, there would be 7 people left in that town. |

I guess they could be lying, but take a look at it. Deaths vs Recovered. - Woderwick
recovered means "confirmed" recovered, it does not resemble the real numeber of recovered. Also there is a large time delay for recovered. People go weeks without being formally recovered. The people who are going to die, do not generally last weeks.
Because of the expected time frame differences, that is not a useful comparison.
Nobody has ever estimated anywhere near that fatality rate, so I am not sure what you hope to get out of that ratio.
The useful comparison is % deaths by % confirmed cases by Age Range. That shows like 1-2% in the worst range.
THEN...
consider that the number of cases is not known. The lastest thing I read suggested that the expectation is that there are somewhere between 10-100 times more cases than were ever confirmed.
... suddenly the frightening "death rate" gets a whole lot lower.
If I was over 70, in a seniors home, I would be terrified. As it is, I am concerned enough to be careful and not want to catch this. These numbers though, are very poor for explaining the whole picture unless they are fully understood and the potential for error is fully explained.
We will not know the true death rate of this virus until long after this pandemic has passed. |

Just found out my late father-in-law's best friend died. He was a franking saint to my wife - she absolutely adored him. One of the greatest guys, and a HUGE Leafs fan.
He's the kind of guy who normally would have a 1,000 person funeral. Not sure what they will do. |

Perhaps you didn't see the bit about shooting the messenger. - Atomic Wedgie
Yes Wedgie I read the whole post and it was just a bit Trumpy and the bit about not shooting the messenger was pretty cheeky. The don’t shoot the messenger line works when you are passing on something that other people are saying. The point is that nobody is talking about trading 85,000 deaths off against the economy.
The whole people are saying approach of your post is very Trump and Trump buddies and business leaders in the States were saying for a while that maybe that was a good idea until Donnie got an idea of how big the numbers were.
Anyway, Wedge it’s all just conversation and nobody gets hurt by conversation except for some of Santo’s friends who panic themselves to death. You’re still a legitimate HB hero and love by all. |

My wife and kids were literally on his doorstep yesterday, asking if he needed anything.
"No, we are fine - we have enough of everything."
My mom is near death, so I imagine he needs to get out of the house when the care workers are there, to release some stress.
But ffs, can you not walk in the ravine? |

I had a coworker yesterday who was having a
bad week say he was going to drive to Pinecrest to lick the doorknobs. Wasn’t sure I should have laughed...on both accounts. |

You know what's kinda funny?
I guess for my generation, your parents' friends were your parents' friends. There was always a bit of a respectful distance. My parents still have one set of friends who they have been BFFs with since I can remember (I was really close with their son). But to this day, they are still "Mr. and Mrs. XXXXX to me - not Mike and Carol.
That's gone now - my kids' friends call me by my first name.
But this gentleman was just a regular guy (despite him being a titan of industry). He and I would always just shoot the poop about the Leafs, and we did it as equals, despite the fact I could never in my life think of us that way. He sat in my backyard last year at a family party, and we both sucked back beers and watched football like we had gone to high school together.
Sorry, I'm rambling.
He will be missed. |
