I believe player contracts are with the NHL, not with the Coyotes. So if the team folds, I believe players would be required to play out their contracts with a different team (under normal circumstances). But the money they earn isn’t “guaranteed”. There is escrow for when league revenue doesn’t match projections, there are buyout windows where teams can terminate an employee, there are non-compliance terminations (show up to camp fat, fail to report to the minors etc).
