Where’s the article written, as in which publication? I think everyone globally missed the warning signs or we wouldn’t be in this predicament.
American politics is entertaining, they’re so passionately on one side or the other, they define themselves but whom they vote for, which party, it’s fascinating to watch from the sidelines. - LeftCoaster
And we don't? Most people here are mostly hardcore Conservative and the rest softcore Liberal/NDP/Independent... I point to LordHumungus as Exhibit A, I'd use kaptaan as Exhibit B but he's just Mel Gibson's character in Conspiracy Theory complete with tinfoil hat who yells about aliens in bed with China kidnapping North Americans and using anal probes to mind control people into creating a Han Chinese Dynasty that spans the globe. |

The one about BC’s response is from CBC and the one about Trump missing the memo is New York Times (no surprise). - 1970vintage
I think demographics play a large part. That corridor from Quebec City to southwestern Ontario has about half the country's population if not more. |

Thanks, I’ll check it out. The New York Times always wants me to pay, used up my freebies.
If I was currently a voting American, hopefully in September, I’d vote for Trump over Biden |

I agree, and BC was paying attention/learned from what was playing out in Quebec. Spring break was two weeks earlier. Dr. Henry said it was a bit of luck, and planning. The overtime of the article was that the communication between levels of government, the level of preparedness and the decisiveness of public officials was largely responsible for our success in avoiding the kind of large spread they have seen in the East. |

I think the out break in Washington state opened BC's eyes early, too. |

As a general thought, from my experience, no, we as a whole generally don’t. My sample size appears to be much larger than yours though lol...jk!
Personally I believe in policies on both sides and I’ve voted for both Canadian major parties. Truth be told, despite me being pro industry, I wanted no part of Andrew Scheer leading this country and I think Trudeau is in over his head, thus I voted Green last election. |

Yes, probably. I didn’t know this, but apparently Dr. Henry has been through this scenario twice before, with MERS and H1N1 |

Agree, and the fact we have a sparsely populated province outside the lower mainland helped as well. Canadians imo are more apt to follow the rule of law than Americans are. They’re more free spirited. |

I think that a people, generally, take their cues from those “in charge”. When the leader of the US goes on TV and says it’s a flu, no big deal, go about your business that’s how people will think: |

I watched a video last night from a cool M.D. down in the States explaining just how the virus kills you and who’s most susceptible to it. Blood pressure and obesity are huge factors it turns out.
Essentially it’s your own immune systems that kill you as they flood the alveoli in your lungs with fluid and your receptors cannot exchange oxygen because you can’t expand your lungs to take a breath because they are so saturated with fluid.
Hypotension kicks in and subsequently atrophy as your organs begin to shutdown from lack of oxygen. |

I don’t believe that at all, at least not in America. They are born and learn from a very young age that they’re free and powerful and they can do whatever the fuk they want. You’ll always have sheep but I don’t think they’re as dumb as you’re making them out to be. |

Most of it's victims ( not all ) weigh about 85 lbs.
Hockey players and NBA players have caught it also. I read today that someone in the lower States said it is mostly black.
There are some real stupid comments going around and my theory is no one is safe. It has no particular liking for the fat and juicy ones or skin color does not matter and probably hair color does not matter either.
Stay inside , wash your hands and hope for the best. |

Hmm
My intention wasn’t to paint them as dumb, or sheep. More so to suggest that one of the biggest reasons they are where they are right now is that their leadership failed them. The people with access to the most available information down played the situation. Reassured the public that there was nothing to be concerned about. Go about your business.
While severe (I’m out of a job) I applaud the response here in BC for taking steps quickly to get ahead of the situation. |

Of course the elderly are most at risk, I was just pointing out two other contributors to the issues with death rate from the virus. |

He wasn’t talking about who it affects, but how it hurts you, and why those obese/diabetic people are hardest hit. |

Which is why, with an autoimmune disease, I stay at home in total fear. |
