I meant next season is $24m. He'll be a $9m backup this year. Foles didn't give up the money to sit on the beach.

Well that's what happened in Jax, and he restructured his deal. He's making as little as Daniels was making last year, fyi

Another mock draft site I was on had the Hawks picking Lundell as well.
- HawkintheD

Doesn't mean much because last year virtually no one had them picking Dach.

With good reason, he's a complete bust. We all know who the Hawks should have drafted.

Do you remember that time... when they said that Morgan Rielly was as good as Keith?

Remember?

That was awesome!

The Athletic did a mock draft, here is the Hawks selection, I think their 'alternate scenario' is more likely.

9. Chicago Blackhawks
Position of need: Forward and goalie
Pick: C Anton Lundell

The Blackhawks pool skews heavily towards defencemen, so their pick will likely be one of the easier choices to predict across a variety of potential draft spots. In Adam Boqvist, Ian Mitchell, Nicolas Beaudin, Alec Regula and Ryan Shea they'll have a healthy competition among young defencemen for NHL spots. A couple of those kids are destined to rise to the top of that crop. But outside of Evan Barrett and Philipp Kurashev, things really thin out at forward, especially given the volatility in the scouting community's opinion of Mackenzie Entwistle and Michal Teply. Lundell makes a lot of sense here. He's a top-five pick in most drafts but he seems to have become a bit of an afterthought relative to the eight players taken ahead of him here. He could provide major value as a high-end 2C, adding more size and skill to go along with Dylan Strome and Kirby Dach as the Blackhawks' potential top nine centres for the post-Toews era.

Alternate scenario: The Blackhawks don't have a single goalie in their prospect pool that I like, so they are among the teams that could take the Askarov plunge. That becomes more likely if a couple of teams behind them win the lottery and they end up selecting 10th or 11th.

I would applaud the HAWKS management if they took Askarov with the 9th pick ,Lundell would be the safer pick, but Askarov could be the perfect compliment to the HAWKS young emerging D core . Now if they luck out and move into the top 3 all bet's are off .

A top 10 pick on a guy who probably won't be coming over for 3 years, if at all. Pass.
Hawks suck at drafting Russians.

9th is low end of ten and getting a high end prospect like Askarov would be a win .Where is this 3 years coming from ? . If true that would be troubling .Best goalie prospect since Price ,hard to pass up .

I would not draft a goalie with a top ten pick unless I already had a loaded roster. Even then I’m not sure I would use a top ten pick on a goalie.

I'm not necessarily advocating for it but I read an article recently where the author was talking about trading the Hawks current pick likely in the top 10 for two 1st round picks in the teens and 20s.

It is important to note that this would only work with the Devils and Wild who are likely to have two 1st rounders after the Hawks current spot.

Given how deep the draft is in the first two rounds, is this worth considering?

My preference is no. Retain the current 1st pick and find another way to acquire a second 1st rounder.

The Hawks now have a 2nd rounder thanks to the Lehner trade.

What has Price ever won except a huge contract? They said the same thing about Knight and Tallon just spent a bundle on Bob.

There are FA goalies every year. I would never waste a top 10 pick on a goalie. Plus, he kinda stunk up the place at WJC.

Russians rarely come over right away and goalies take longer to develop. The Hawks would be lucky if they saw this guy in 5 years in the NHL.

I am taking the top 10 pick. The chance of finding a difference maker are better at the top of the draft.

Yes I would not want to trade the 9th pick for two later picks .For sure not before the Lottery is held ,9th odds 16% to go into the top 3 are about the same as Detroit 18.5 % to get number 1 overall . After the Lottery and when the Draft begins maybe something comes up that they may see a chance to get their player and another ,so I guess you can never say never . Askarov could drop as Goalie are not many folks idea of a top 10 pick, and being in Russia is another knock on him .

Well I am no Price fan by any means ,but he has won some hardware Williams Jennings Trophy (shared with the great Cory Crawford ) Vezina Ted Lindsay Hart Olympic Gold not a bad list, no Cup and that The big one !! .
But really most GM say build from the net out ,and the HAWKS have been doing that with their core of young impressive defenseman .Now they have a solid big Center .Why not take a shot at the best young goalie to come along in awhile at 9th pick If he is still available .Good young Goalies are coming up faster as it is becoming a young mans league .
I hardly call it a waste . Goaltending is the biggest +/- on any team ..
