Well, like the most cavalier on this board say when it comes to the virus, it's Darwinian. Right? Isn't that how it goes?

It's the high-end number. Even if the number is not 40k, the rapid increase in unemployment, which this country hasn't seen, is still going to have long lasting effects, from suicides, homicides, an increase in domestic abuse, and a myriad of mental health issues.

We have a case of two extremes--Italy and S. Korea--and how they approached this from the beginning dictated the results

The first 12 pages where it was stated. Admittedly, it's not airtight, which is why I said "high-end".

in times of crisis
I think it would be better to have 1 party make quick decisive action

instead of 2 parties fighting with each other

Did you read the multiple places where the authors concluded:

From the estimated results we found some evidence that economic downturns are associated with reductions in mortality rates. In accordance with Ruhm (2000) we detected a significant procyclical relationship between unemployment and total mortality where a one percentage increase in unemployment predicted a 0.29% decrease in number of total deaths.

It's at page 22, for example. And further, I would generally not cite to this study for any purpose given the author's admission, in the conclusion, at page 35,

Therefore, a more logical explanation to this puzzling result is that there are probably not enough observations in the subsample to draw any conclusion on the matter. Ruhm (2015) emphasizes that estimations using samples containing 5-year periods lack sufficient precision to determine whether the effect is real or reflects statistical noise, so investigations of macroeconomic variations in health outcomes and behaviors should with too short samples should be viewed with extreme caution.

and again on page 40 that

it is possible that this study would require more years in order to get a more reliable estimate of the crisis

italy has 4 parties in their government

south korea is pretty much 1 party right now, democratic

What common corona viruses in the past have we built immunity against by completely avoiding all contact with it? Really think about this one.

It's not polio. It's not small-pox.

It's something new and the best course of action, despite the loss of life, is to let the population, which they are saying 90% of us will have gotten or will get this virus, get infected and build up a natural immunity while you look for a viable vaccine.

Staying inside and making new babies will produce offspring that hasn't built immunity to this "novel" THAT MEANS NEW virus via their parents contracting the virus and fighting it off naturally, like our ancestors did.

Modern medicine helps a lot and the real problem is over-saturated hospitals, not your Grandmother who takes a prescription drug cocktail to stay alive every morning who is being buried in a mass grave right now.

Yet I'm the psycho.

That IS the plan. The plan is just so that everyone doesn't get sick at once and overwhelm the system more than it already is.

This place is a bit of an echo chamber if you hadn't noticed; hence why someone may feel inclined to bemoan the other side of the aisle more than the other.
