IMHO, YES, all of them!

Term limits - install them now. NO ONE should be a millionaire when elected nor should they become a millionaire while in office. Once you eliminate the need to work to make money to live, you eliminate perspective.

I have nothing against making money as I am well enough off, but making our politicians millionaires is wrong.

- TC4145

I honestly don't think term limits fix the issue. Politicians stay in office because big and powerful donors keep them in their pocket. The notion that these same big and powerful donors can't find someone else to do their dirty work every 4, 8, or even 12 years (whatever time you want to set) doesn't hold water. The issue runs deeper than that.

Japan already offering Japanese companies who manufacture in China huge incentives to break from them and return home or move to another country.

I bet the US and other European countries will follow.

I'm all on board with all of that, but how much higher of a cost will consumers will be willing to accept, as the cost will absolutely be higher for consumers.

The US already tried that with 2017 Tax Reform. It didn't really work.

Warning - rant that may not be coherent follows so I would suggest skipping this one. This is just a cathartic, I am stuck at home and sick of the predictive models and the back and forth, post:

One perspective. Term limits are a part of the problem. If we can put them in place, we can address that portion of the debacle.

We then can move to the issues of PACs and Super PACs and other donating factions. If the donors know that they cannot invest in a long-term politician we MIGHT be able to curb the problem.

List the issues and address them one at a time. Term limits, election reform, etc. No reason not to take on these items. Unless you are a career politician who would control the reform.

If we depend on the populace to manage this process, we end up with the extremes when most of the population is in the middle.

California has seafood.

Buy some beer batter mix or breading mix for seafood and make your own.

You’d think someone that took cooking classes could figure that out.

Prices were driven up so Hi for our owns goods it got to expensive to produce certain items in are own Country. Jesus Christ my Company was buying materials from China and India knowing it was poop. But it was still cheaper to buy it there, bring it in and fix it in are in house machine shop, then try and by that material in the US because it was so expensive.

The documentary "American Factory" was fantastic at looking at this. The chinese factory owner completely scoffed at safety regulations. Safe working conditions, a 40 hour work week and weekends off is expensive.

Or you can pay a 12 year old to work 70 hours a week for $3 a day

Not according to the supreme court

They have the same free speech rights as a person - with "free speech" meaning "money." What you're advocating for is a reversal of Citizens United

We have to find a way in this Country to level out pricing for everything, from Grocery store products to housing and so forth. I don't think it can be done because Companies think more of profit then equal opportunities.

It's a great question, and needs to be discussed as we begin to move into the next phase of this crisis. I don't have the answer, never claimed to either. I do know the answer can't be a sort of "at all risks" answer either.

Needs to be balanced with the risk ruining the economy. I think that is very pragmatic.
JP Morgan just issued a projection that the economy could suffer a 40% drop, while another projection pegged it at 25%.

I haven't looked it up, so off the top of my head, that seems to me to be entering Depression era numbers.

So, no. No need to open the bars to full capacity as is a "flip the switch" mentality. But a continued, full stay at home directive except for essential workers for months longer can't be the answer either.

getting rid of corporations that can lobby in their interest and run the little guys out of business will help.. competition among smaller corporations is always going to be better for pricing than large corporations with basic monopolies on items

I hope you understand that I'm not arguing this as my personal belief or that this is a good thing. It's obviously completely absurd and more than a little dystopian. I'm just explaining why things are the way they are, and why the special interest money will not stop. It's their "1st Amendment Right"

The narrative being peddled around early-to-mid-March was that the best we could hope for was somewhere between 100k-200k deaths with full social distancing, and that we weren't doing enough. Now were still "not doing enough" and the estimated figure is now 60,000. The media thrives on Fear Porn.

Good Post, unfortunately these monopolies have a foot hold, and unless the somehow someone steps in to set new rules and regulations or altleast enforce the regulations in place,, it won't happen for small businesses.
