good point...they could get rid of him and fill with someone else who'd probably cost a million or so less...however, they do know what they have in him plus it looks as if he has a good working relationship with Ullmark
- Michael Pachla

If he truly had some injury he was playing through, the extra time off could help as well.

Dillon sucks IMO

get a difference maker, or lean on Pilut for second pair

- homiedclown

if he sux, why did Washington, a Stanley Cup contender, give up a second and a third for him and play him 20 mins/game?

I hope that when you research your Arm Chair GM team, that you also do a "set-up" piece 1st to establish a strategy for spending the Cap by position and line / pair.

I did some work on that a couple weeks ago by evaluating the Roster of 10 teams and then computing Averages and Ranges for each position. I'd be happy to share with you if you like.

My argument is that there should be a process established, before you grab players to put on the roster. I would think that process could be:
1) Create a Generic Strategic Plan for Cap Spend by position
2) Customize the Generic plan for the Sabres by updating it with specific contract commitments they currently have ...i.e. while 1C maybe allocated 11% of the Cap, in the Generic, the Vustom would put Jack's $10m in that slot. Do that for all contract commitments for all spots.
3) Now go about your Archair GM process with players who generally fit the Cap parameters for open spots.

Some of the posted Armchair GM Rosters have nice players, but do you really want to spend the associated Cap even though it fits ... does that "fit" last through the following season when Dahlin needs his new deal? A Strategic Plan helps get you there.

Bonino shouldn't cost that much and hes 32 years old the goal should be younger

Jake allen ? He's absolutely terrible now

And you're giving that all up for sam Bennett who is a 3rd line player right now
He's value is extremely low

First trade is a winner though

the best gm's get as much talent as they can to fit under the cap in a given year yet always find a way to make it work the following season...plus, once all this is over, seattle's coming and I believe a new tv contract as well...the cap should go up rather significantly

Not sure if you looked at my armchair submission, but I had traded McCabe and signed Dillon. You're getting better defensively and a lot more physicality.
I had Pilut as a bottom pairing LD.
What difference maker for LD would you consider? We have no shutdown dmen and don't need more offensive dmen.

- adambuffalo

Brodie, but I'm biased 😂😅

I continue to be unsure why Bennett is a target at all. Lazar provides everything Bennet does at 25% now and probably 50% when re-signed. I just don't get it.

I'd rather pay more for Gustafsson or Brodie

I'd rather see a kid up there then a a crappy player like Dilion

Maybe. For sure pre-Covid-19.
Now they are talking about recouping this season's revenue losses over the next 2 - 3 seasons by freezing the Cap.

We will know better in a couple of months, but the degree of previously assumed Cap increase is no longer valid.

I only included Bennett in mine for cap purposes to try and even out the money a bit more.

They cannot possibly take that route without at least one, if not two, compliance buy outs.

The fact that you think Dillon is crappy shows you haven't watched him play too often. Or you just think good defenseman have to score a lot.

He's alot of money for 2LhD, especially when you have to pay Dahlin significant money in 1 year out, and you still don't have a 1RhD...and no, Risto, Montour nor Joker are currently it.

For me, a quality defensive defenseman absolutely must be able to make a top notch first pass out of the zone with consistency. Does Dillon do that? I'm asking because I don't know.

If Dahlin is as good as we all think, he doesn't need a top end 1st pairing partner.

Also, in one of mine, I have Brodie anchoring the second pair from the right side.

Mine was to clear some cap space and added a higher pick. He was buried after the deal and would fit in nicely in Rochester.

I haven't looked at your rosters for several days, but I seem to remember it was multiple player deal on both sides. I'd unwind the player causing the need to balance the Cap hit from Bennett.
Do not want.

You cannot have a stagnate cap for two years in a row, let alone more, without compliance buy outs, as you're all but ending player movement across the league.

This past season was difficult enough due to how many teams were so close to or over the cap.

That's not even considering you would be lowering the potential contracts for upcoming UFA's.

The picks are worthless the goal is to start winning now ..

And we have a dumbass gm that trades picks away like candy for bums

It was Montour and Reinhart for Monahan and Bennett.

Take your pick of another player coming back from Calgary other then Bennett, but it would absolutely have to happen for cap purposes.
