The fact that you think Dillon is crappy shows you haven't watched him play too often. Or you just think good defenseman have to score a lot.

scandella would be a better option to bring back then dillon

getting dillion would be like getting vesey, johansson, kulikov, sheary

etc

another player that holds a roster spot, plays blah, and keeps a better player in rochester

He's alot of money for 2LhD, especially when you have to pay Dahlin significant money in 1 year out, and you still don't have a 1RhD...and no, Risto, Montour nor Joker are currently it.
- IonSabres

if you move miller, risto or montour

you have the money for brodie

If Dahlin is as good as we all think, he doesn't need a top end 1st pairing partner.

Also, in one of mine, I have Brodie anchoring the second pair from the right side.

- kingcong39

Dahlin is going to be an offensive stud.
His D-game continues to lack significantly...I don't see that becoming his strength, rather needing a suitable partner to cover-up his mistakes risked by being offensively aggressive.
Montour, and Risto aren't it, they both are suspect defensively.
Joker might be the guy 2 years down the road, but we don't know.

Brodie could be your 1 Rhd with Dahlin
Joker is 2RhD
Miller/Borgen/Bryson could be your rotating 3Rhd and 7th over the years

they also gave us a 3rd for Weber

- homiedclown

Hard to remember that trade while they're rolling that 2018 Stanley Cup highlight reel.

I don't believe the advanced stats show that Dahlin is significantly lacking defensively.

They also showed that Montour was stronger defensively last year and weaker offensively.

You cannot have a stagnate cap for two years in a row, let alone more, without compliance buy outs, as you're all but ending player movement across the league.

This past season was difficult enough due to how many teams were so close to or over the cap.

That's not even considering you would be lowering the potential contracts for upcoming
UFA's.

- kingcong39

Given the Sabres position with Cap this offseason, THAT is exactly what we should be hoping for...
Force teams to make moves, buy UFA's for shorter periods at relative depressed prices, also makes existing RFA's much more attractive to other teams...could the Sabres effectively leverage that for Mitts, Tage, etc. In trades for better, more expensive players?

I agree that compliance Buyouts are likely, part of me hopes not

Wasn't sure about the Oilers thread comment, but I see that's gone now.
How is bringing back Scandella better?
And how is it like bringing in the guys you mentioned?

Adding Dillon brings a lot of toughness that we don't have. A defensively responsible dman to pair with an offensive guy. And you're adding a vet with some good playoff experience that we don't have.

In my scenario he would be replacing McCabe, so he's not taking a spot from a better player in Rochester.

Don't mean to offend, and I like alot of your posts, but a rather direct response is required...
put down the computer and watch Dahlin play Defense...very much lost in his own zone.
Know that, play to his strengths, give him a very solid D partner and let him loose to play a sort of Rover position.

But when you watch him it does. He still has a lot to learn defensively.

When you say you don't mean to offend, it means the comment that follows is going to be condescending, which yours was.

He has his moments, like all defenseman do, but I've seen innumerable plays where he makes great subtle plays to exit the zone. That's also playing defense.

Saying he is very much lost in his own zone is a blatant overstatement that is inaccurate.

I think one buyout should be allowed.
I don't think you would see less player movement, but actually more movement.
Lowering UFA contracts is not a bad thing, especially after seeing mediocre player's salaries increasing to absurd amounts.

I'm sorry but saying Dahlin is very much lost in his own zone is overstated nonsense.

Does he have room for improvement? Of course.

Do you think the NHLPA is going to be ok with that, because we think players are overpaid?

He was sat in the middle of a game for his lost defensive play.

In the beginning of the season when coach Ralph was trying to 'teach him a lesson'.

He was massively better after he came back from the Cernak dirty hit.

Not to sound condescending, but you are half right with your assessment. When he has the puck in the Dzone he does a great job. When the other team has it is where the problem is.

brodie is a much better player

get the best guy you can get, don't settle for a blah guy

that is my point

dillion is not a difference maker, never has been, never will

I'd rather have the cap space and play pilut 20 minutes a night then get dillion

I watched him strip several players of the puck during the season.

We're never going to agree on what good defense means, and it's a difficult subject overall.

Some think good defense is being physical like Ristolainen, but if that physicality doesn't lead to getting the puck back or causing a turnover, and worse, said player cannot make a consistent first pass after getting the puck, how much does the physicality matter?

only coach that could be dumber then phil

you have the best d prospect in 20 years, and ralph reduces his ice time by 10% in year 2

once this team was eliminated, dahlin should have been getting 26 minutes a night

the goal is to get better

He wad massively better offensively. He still needs work defensively. Hell, defense has always been his weak spot going back to his SHL days.

And, tbh, i couldn't care less about his defensive game right now. It's not why he was drafted 1st overall

just like our coach has a lot to learn about coaching

and our gm has a lot to learn about managing

and our owners have a lot to learn about owning an NHL team
