Agreed, especially when you're also paying him $4M+ for multiple years.

He wad massively better offensively. He still needs work defensively. Hell, defense has always been his weak spot going back to his SHL days.

And, tbh, i couldn't care less about his defensive game right now. It's not why he was drafted 1st overall

- Michael Pachla

Come on Mike, he was also much better defensively as well. It was easy to see that.

I'm talking about those that have Dillon signed as part of their armchair GM mock lineup.

only coach that could be dumber then phil

you have the best d prospect in 20 years, and ralph reduces his ice time by 10% in year 2

once this team was eliminated, dahlin should have been getting 26 minutes a night

the goal is to get better

- homiedclown

Gee, ya think maybe the coach thought he wasn't ready for that role. Get some coffee and remember that housley was so bad defensively his rookie year, Bowman moved him to wing.

Housley? Really?
You're better than that

once this team was eliminated in mid Jan

Dahlin should have been on the first team PK and our number 1 LD playing even strength minutes

he wasn't

throw the kid to the fire, and take the f@cking kid gloves off

once the season is lost, focus on developing the kids, not overplaying scrubs that are not part of our future just to keep the score "respectable"

housley had enough sense to play dahlin 20 minutes a game, and skinner on the first team pp

our coach feels a 40 goal scorer does not to be on first team pp

people praising ralph is a typical homer that can't see the light at the end of the tunnel and probably marries the first woman he sleeps with

just like our coach has a lot to learn about coaching

and our gm has a lot to learn about managing

and our owners have a lot to learn about owning an NHL team

Retort stands, the Caps, just over a year removed from winning the Cup, felt he was worth a 2nd and a 3rd.

Really? If so, I don't think even those that would sign him would be interested in paying that guy north of $5M per.

Nope. He was better. His skating was once again 1st-overall worthy, but he d was ok at best. And I'm ok with that

Does Tampa sending a 1st to San Jose for Barclay Goodrow mean that Goodrow is a better player than he actually is, or does it indicate a team probably overpaid for a player compared to his actual on ice impact and value?

It means he doesn't suck in the eyes of the top team in the Atlantic Div

What constitutes good defense? Serious question.

- Tying up a player in front of the net?
- Tying up a player along the boards?
- Being excellent with positioning?
- Being able to cause turnovers?
- Blocking shots?
- Blocking passes?
- Making a great first pass out of the zone?
- Being able to exit the zone yourself?

It's very much a nuanced topic and discussion.

Teams overvalue players all the time.

It doesn't mean the team that does is right.

All teams make mistakes.

dahlin does the last two very well...

his positioning has gotten better and will continue to get better and he's pretty good at causing turnovers and/or blocking passes...

he's not expected to block shots...at least regularly (which is necessary on the pk)...

he's a defenseman and what he is not good at is tying up a player in front of the net and along the boards...he was really bad at both much of last season and at the beginning of the season but he's progressed...not massively, imo, but has progressed
