It's hard to fault people for not immediately recognizing the gravity of this situation - hell, Kathleen Wynne gave Doug Ford a pass when Ford didn't initially lock it down, saying she understood he wanted to keep people optimistic and keep the money flowing.

The people who deserve punches to the balls our ire are the people who continue to turn a blind eye and a deaf ear once the entire franking world knew that poop was going down.

Not that I was ever going to Georgia again after their horrific abortion laws were passed, but FFS, the governor is a despicable human being.

I have said several times that this is true.
All 'developed countries' governments were too late in their response, just because they would never expect such an outbreak to be possible in their country (and healthcare systems not being able to deal with this).
For governments I'm not refering to these initial outbreak weeks though, but on their lack of response when their countries were already fully impacted (e.g. Dutch bought the Chloroquine 25th of March).

WHO has just not been on top of things with this, same for Ebola and quite a few other disease areas. Cannot have an unqualified DG leading such an important organization.

I don’t get why you’re equating the failure of the WHO with the failures of developed countries with sophisticated health disease control systems. Or maybe you’re not equating them.

HNIC is so determined to present hockey as some part of their vision of a whole, Syd Crosbyish, small town, Tim Hortons Canada. I find it unwatchable.

I find it funny that they are doing this whole schmaltzy thing to demonstrate that no matter where you are in Canada, we are all the same, united by our love of hockey.

They haven't realized that for viewers, it means they are just serving up the same crap every single Sunday night.

Tonight, we are in (insert small town name here), where the hockey rink is the focal point of the community. We'll talk to local mayor (insert name here), who rallied his town to save the rink, and in the process, blah blah blah blah blah.

I couldn't sit through the whole thing the first time. By February, it's pretty franking old.

What they just did in Wisconsin was (frank)ing criminal. (Democratic) Governor tried to delay in person election yesterday and used executive authority to do so. Republicans took him to court. Wisconsin Supreme Court including Chief Justice who is up for election now say nope vote away. US Supreme Court agrees and denies request to extend mail in voting period (they don’t care about protecting against virus except in their cases which are now done remotely.

Election proceeds with polling stations in Milwaukee down from 130 to 5. Remember 2016? Wisconsin was a key win for Trump because turnout in Milwaukee was down.

Sounds like practice for November

They should play up our hate for each other.

We broadcasting from a strip mall tonight in Vaughan as the Leafs reignite their rival with the Habs. Tony, what do you think about Montrealers.

I must confess I go back and forth on this one: once you start making exceptions to the voting process, where does it end? Thunderstorms discourage old people from voting - would that be enough to extend?

Quite frankly, the US should be looking at their completely franked-up electoral system instead (and I'm not talking about the Electoral College).

Who the frank has a system where parties register voters?

Who the frank has a system where the incumbent party runs the elections?

It's a franking third-world system, and BOTH parties should be ashamed of themselves for the lack of electoral reform.

But hey, if you have a system where you can't possibly finish worse than second, I guess there isn't much incentive to change.

I love it!

Tonight we come to you live from Etobicoke, where Vince is cheering for the Leafs, and hates everyone from Scarborough.

And from Scarborough, where Seamus is also cheering for the Leafs, but thinks people from Etobicoke are low-life losers.

Numerous states changed election dates because of the virus. Wisconsin is one of the most corrupt.

Yes, the US system is weird. States set election boundaries and party in state power has full discretion. Their Supreme Court has ruled gerrymandering is ok to advantage your party but you can’t overtly do it on racial lines.

But it is a Republican issue because the Republican Party is shrinking. After Obama was elected, the Republicans went through this big soul searching thing and decided they had to find ways to improve outreach to minorities. Along comes Trump and now, not so much. They need to suppress votes to win. They needed in 2016 and they need it even more now.

This is true. My girlfriend (not from Toronto) and I were looking for a house and even though I said at 18 that I'd never live in Scarborough again, I also looked upon Scarborough much more favourably than Etobicoke and found myself finding problems with all the places in the west end that she showed me.

I am indeed not equating them.
I'm just saying that a lot of governments underestimated this outbreak and then failed in the secondary response.
And I'm saying as well that WHO tremendously failed in their evaluation and response to this outbreak.
I do think as well it is fair to say that some countries underestimated this, due to the lack of proper response (or basically being completely wrong) by WHO ("no evidence for human-to-human transmission of SARS-CoV-2" as a prime example).

So Norm MacDonald + who on HNIC?
there must be a good young presenter that could relieve Doug McClean?
(he can be a priest, seems like he'd be good at that).

I love Norm but I’m not sure he’d be right for this. Play by play might be fun. Kinda of like Foster Hewitt doing Ruskies. He’d have these great pauses and delays as the play was unfolding. Maybe put him in a booth with Jennerette or however you spell his name. That would be good.

There is a huge mental divide between East and West in Toronto - and the hilarious thing is most people don't realize it, even though they are gripped by it.

We used to live in the Annex, yet no way in hell I would ever go a block past Bathurst (and only to go to Bill Bolton Arena). It was like I was living on the edge of Toronto - could only go east from there.

He’s actually part of this crowd - it’s all a big conspiracy by some group of funny looking “them”. It’s been the basis of Trumpism and has becoming more prevalent among Canadian nutbars
