If there are no playoffs and no Cup champion, all teams have missed the playoff. Not reasonable to expect a draft based on standings that become meaningless. - winsix
Agreed.
You can’t just throw out playoffs and not throw out the normal draft rules.
Use data from the last 3 years. Make it as fair as possible...use this years standings for positions but the lottery should be pretty even.
So Detroit likely doesn’t win but they still can only draft 4th at the lowest. |

70 games a pretty good reflection of quality of teams. I don’t think that’s meaningless. - Canada Cup
Sure.
But the whole point of the lottery is to give a chance for teams who miss playoffs a chance to get better.
In a year where there are no playoffs...it will most certainly be different |

They should let the draftees pick which team they want to go it.
That would be fun. |

No, the break off of the playoffs is only to provide different rules for playoff teams based on their performance in the playoffs. The whole point is to give bad teams a better chance to improve but to try to guard against deliberate tanking.
Losing 12 games affects how some teams move up and down and losing playoffs means losing how playoff teams move within the tournament grouping. Oh well. One more victim of the virus.
Why should Detroit be disadvantaged in any way because there are no playoffs. In fact they are so bad they should just be given the top three picks automatically. |

Maybe Matthews wouldn’t have picked the Leafs at the time, but knowing the city now, he’d maybe still pick TO. I could see him choosing NYR, or CHI tho. |

Quit trying to make a perfect solution. We are living in a world of chaos. If everyone dislikes it, it's probably a fair solution. |

That depends. Do we have a 1st rd pick or does it go to Carolina? Are we drafting in the top 10 or not? |

I didn't include onions and garlic because they are so fundamental they are like air or water. |

Detroit did a good ol tank, and you can bet it was planned that way.
But there is no perfect solution, and all the conditions on the picks makes it impossible to make it fair to every team. I dont know how you fix that problem |
