I applaud him for doing what he’s supposed to be doing.

Oh I agree, just that two of his biggest “wins” were Hansen and Burrows. Scratch two off the win column.

NHL hasn’t set firm drop-dead date to cancel 2019-20 season, still ‘hopeful’

Mike Keenan was a much much better rebuild GM.

That be great if he was trying to rebuild, which he wasn’t, he was trying to be competitive, but hey, when you’re really bad at your job the NHL system rewards you

Absolutely, he was a POS as a coach but pulled off a few great trades such as the Linden for Ruutu, McCabe and Bertuzzi one which set the team up for years.

Imagine if back in 2014 we moved on and started a rebuild when we should have. We would have got great prospects back and been in the sweeps for McDavid and Matthews.

We wouldn't have signed Eriksson to that ridiculous contract to try to extend the careers of two players clearly on the end of their career.

If only someone had the insight to warn you of what would happen

I still remember the fans chanting ONE MORE YEAR at the last game

Ya it’s too bad Aquilini wouldn’t let that happen and fired Gillis because that’s what he wanted to do. We had tons of guys with value

It must be nice to have your core drafted and acquired for you and then absolutely bungle every draftpick after that. I loved the hamuis signing and the Salo deal, ill give him that.

McLean, Linden, Sillinger, Odjick, Babych and a bunch of other spare parts in one season.

It was also because he was completely incompetent at drafting, but hey whatever story makes you happy! I wonder why he hasnt been hired since?

That's a crock of Sh1t . Gillis had the chance to move on from the Sedins 6 years earlier and even bragged that there would be a different look to the Canucks in his first year.

Then at the last minute when he couldn't sign anyone else hopped on a plane at the last minute to sign them for 6 years.

They literally could have kept the Sedins, traded everything else that wasn’t nailed down, and been back to relevance before they retired. But instead they paddled upstream in a broken canoe for four more years.

Must have been, I’m guessing. His questions to the league about travel for the team and subsequent changes they made for the organization were innovative. Not to mention heath, fitness, sleep, etc.....he was ahead of the curve.

Plus the additions of the depth that put the core over the hump. Manny, Hamhuis, Torres, Lappy, Higgins, all great moves.

Certainly had his faults but dam that was a great five years to be a Nicks fan.

If his skill was as good as Beagle, Sutter, Schaller, Motte, Gradlund, Gaunce, Erikksson he would have been playing, plus those guys played minor roles and then the complaint would be "he doesn't get enough ice time to show his skiilset"
- Makita

He had every opportunity & just didn’t get it or some team would’ve taken a flyer on him besides us. He says ‘try again in 2yrs’ there is no try just do - Yoda lol

It’s the absolute truth, Aquilini wanted to press on in 2014 and Gillis said he thought they should rebuild but wasn’t allowed to. Philosophical differences led to his firing.

If I remember correctly Gillis handed out 7 full NTCs and 2 NMCs

Burkie even reported the other day Kadri and 2 first round picks for Luongo were agreed upon but Roberto said no thanks.

Also thank you Dan Hamhuis and Edler for refusing to waive

So if you are talking about moving the 14 other flaming pieces of garbage that didn't have a NTC like Aaron Volpatti and Eddie Lack good luck with your rebuild

Again when Gillis got here 6 years earlier he he said he would change the team right away . The twins contract was up and Toronto wanted them . Gillis could not sign anyone and in an act of desperation flew to Sweden for an 11 th hour signing.

What the (frank) does that have to do with 2014? You said too bad they didn’t rebuild in 2014, so I commented the owner wouldn’t allow it, now we’re back in 2008 talking about re-signing the Sedins...WTF???

For the record when he was hired, Gillis, he said he wasn’t sure if they were going to be part of the future. Ultimately after being hired he decided to re-sign them and I’m so thankful he did. We got the witness the best five year run in Canucks history...it was awesome.

Just had a brief talk with Nikolay Goldobin about signing in Russia for the next 2 years.

“The #Canucks did not want to sign me, I was disappointed how it turned out in VAN but I am happy to sign in KHL and will try NHL again in 2 years.”

It is only Dhaliwal so take it with a grain of salt
