Good. Good Rose as well. The Pinot Gris is pretty well priced and tasty as hell. Chardonnay is good. You can probably get some Monster Vineyards thrown in to fill out the order. It’s decent and cheap.

Monster Vineyards is the off brand of Poplar Grove, so things tend to be sweeter, but it’s still really good for the price. The Rose and Chardonnay are really nice, and for Reds, Cabs or Red Eye are decent.

For Poplar Grove I’d recommend the Pinot Gris, Rose and Chardonnay for whites and Syrah and Cab Franc for the reds. If you’re feeling like a high roller, Legacy is really good.

In regards to roasting potatoes in duck fat, we were given a book called "The Food Lab", the recipe was found in there amongst other great recipes. Buddy was a scientist for the FDA or something and as a side tried every method to find the best for whatever. It costs between $60- $70 but is SO worth it.

I have some ‘13 whites in my cellar I’m tempted to open...

Myer Chard (forget which vineyard), Vieux Pin SB, Tinhorn 2 bench white. But my white section is severely depleted right now.

Just grabbed a couple new Category 12 beers. They are happily a 10 min bike ride from home so you feel good about the work you did to earn a beer or three.

I'm just not sure where we're headed these days with the virus so adding an extra $20 to a bottle of wine might not be a great idea. I mean the wife has been home with the kids for a month now, she qualifies for the CERB but I'll have to pay taxes on it and it may run out soon.

I just find usually for a red I really enjoy it's usually north of $25/ bottle and for a white usually close to $20. Maybe i'll get one bottle, drink it the day we've turned the tide with a nice rack of local lamb.

I mean Canada has tested less than %1 of the population, so even if the numbers are ten times higher that's still a really low number of people that are currently infected. It's going to be awhile before they get this sorted out with the current plan.

My wife just told me that the astrologists say it will subside May 29th (something about a bunch of planets in line) but that things won’t be back to normal until December 2021.

Recommend cellaring all the reds. Had a 2011 or 2012 (I forget which now) Cab Franc a couple months ago and it was a) delicious and b) still going strong.

It’s an interesting situation in BC. In European wine producing countries there are all appellations that produce inexpensive “table wines”. In Spain, Italy etc you can grab litres of plonk, that is still decent for a few Euros. But the land is so expensive here that all our wine producing regions are “Napa Valley” or “Champagne” even though some of them don’t produce the quality of those places.

I’d add the US with places like the Central Valley - Woodbridge, Lodi etc. as cheap producers of decent quality.

I have a really good friend that has been living in Australia for years. In his words, "there's like 5 Okanagan valley's here with less than 1/3 of the population." We both spent 20 years in BC.

At retail level here there are rarely good deals on BC wine aside from the lower end stuff. Every now and then they'll do a regional buy and I can find something from Burrowing Owl or somewhere else at a decent price.

Usually though, best value here is Italy, France or California......occasionally Ontario.

Try their Cab Franc or Syrah. Some of the best in the Okanagan.

My wife grew up in the Muskoka area, last fall when she went home to see her parents she drives right by there when she flys into Toronto, she picked some up and brought them home.
