I could never give Gillis credit for Hamhuis. The guy had his eyes on this team, and only wanted to play here. Any one of us could have signed him. He did take the best team in the league, get to only one Stanley Cup final, and fail to keep it relevant beyond one good season/playoff and then one good season. Truly an innovator... Onhow to suck as a GM. - Retinalz
I think Hamhuis wanted to play here, i agree, but it was a very good contract. I’m all for credit where it’s due, i think Gillis was pretty bad at a lot of things but he fixed the d up w/erhoff, salo and hamhuis were all solid. Ballard was awful, in general his drafting was some of the worst by any GM outside of tsn draft analyst Craig Button who I personally think was the worst drafting of any. |

Which is all understood and not part of the specifics of what the point on the mechanics of negotiating these contracts. Why brought up if this can happen while technically under contract why can't Canucks press to get a deal done with KHL players like Podz? - NuckUp
Because they are still under contract beyond the current contract year... |

Imagine if he gave Mitchell the benefit of the doubt after the concussion and signed him to an extension instead of letting him walk. |

So why not negotiate that....even sign one to go into effect when he starts playing in NA? |

I bet Willie’s glad he didn’t and he signed with the Kings

Why is that a block to making a deal? The NHL deal can slide or be for X year.
Anyway like I said before these mechanisms are a small thing to pick apart. Maybe it has more to do with contract slot limits for the Canucks and when they expect to bring over someone like Podz. |

I hope this Goldobin memorial picks up speed. Twitter is doing it's share but in here little anger.
We did let another prospect walk for nothing or are we saving that anger for when Tanev walks? - VANTEL
24 yrs old, 124 NHL games. 148 AHL games. Is he a prospect anymore? 272 pro games says no.

lol having a healthy Mitchell here wouldn't have brought us a cup. Being a part of stacked LA clubs doesn't make him a big winner. It's like saying if we keep Tanev we'll have a cup in a few years lol |

The NHL and KHL do not have any kind of transfer agreements. I mean, sure, he could sign an ELC (I guess, I don’t really know the legalities of that) and it could slide a year. But what for? You know he isn’t coming over for 20/21, and the Canucks can only have 50 contracts, why burn one for nothing? |

How do you know? They were one win in Boston away from winning the cup. A healthy WM could have made a big difference. And for the record, 2011 was a “stacked” Canucks team. |

Agreed the 2011 Canucks club was unreal good and the Bruins basically had no business being on the same surface as us...but WM wouldn't have been able to beat Bettman and Campbell. Regardless of AV...the PP drying up...Luongo etc etc etc, after the Rome hit Bettman and Campbell had all they needed. Is what it is. |

Yeah Mitchell wouldn't have helped. I mean all season we watched AHLberts , Rome and Ballard play.
Not to mention we wouldn't have made the Ballard trade to begin with. |

Imagine Grabner instead of Raymond and Mitchell instead of AHLberts. |

Nonis was absolutely bottom three GM’s in Canucks history, along with Jack Gordon and either Harry Neal or Jim Benning. |
