It’s not really debatable, Benning’s guided the franchise for their five worst on-ice performing years in its history. That’s a fact. All the while trying to be competitive and spending to the cap, trading away picks and youth for quick fixes as well as poor UFA signing.
As I’ve said before, the God-send is the NHL rewards poor performances with high draft positions thereby giving you access to the best kids in the world. Not exactly rocket science, I mean Craig McTavish selected Draisaitl third overall, does that make him one of the best GM’s in Oilers history? - LeftCoaster
Keep on trying to make JB the patsy for Gillis & his mess he left. Ignore everything that doesn’t fit into your narrative. |

I find it fascinating that people can recognize the 'lottery picks don't equal good management' thing when they look at the Oilers and mock the Oilers and it's obvious to them that the Oilers sucking and getting McDavid/Draisaitl/RNH/Nurse doesn't mean that team has been well run. But are completely blind to it when it comes to us, to the point that these people are constantly using moves that are *identical* to what the Oilers did as evidence that we're not the Oilers.
"We had to overpay Beagle so we didn't turn into the Oilers like when they overpaid Eric Belanger as a depth center!" - LeftCoaster
I find it hilarious that people somehow expect a GM to somehow be God and manage to clean up the previous regime's messes (with NTCs/NMCs to pretty much everyone), try to not completely bottom out and stay competitive in a division that during the time the Canucks dropped was getting much stronger with Edmonton, Calgary, SJ and LA (for the most part) rising up the standings. Manage to draft fresh talent that would form a new core all the while trying to cater to an owner's wishes for playoffs. You could have got someone like Holland in here and it probably would have ended up the same way. Bottom 3 GM of all-time? No, he's definitely not top 3 for sure, he's on the mid-tier of mediocre Canuck's GM's all-time. If he fails to make the playoffs whenever there's a season again, or ends up losing any of the core (Petey, Hughes, Boeser, etc.) because of cap issues then yes, he'll be definitely bottom 3 |

This is also total nonsense, you’re not deemed great at your job because you finished so bad that you got access to the best kids in the world. Do you think the Oilers fans owe a debt of gratitude to Kevin Lowe for bad finishes but drafting Hall and RNH, or Craig McTavish for finishing poorly and drafting Draisaitl, or Chiarelli for drafting McDavid?
What you’re saying is the Oilers future or present is a product of those three idiots drafting well and every Oiler fan owes them a huge apology - LeftCoaster
GMJB has had a steep learning curve with a lot of mistakes inheriting a team with anchors and empty cupboards.
Yet they never had a consensus no brainer top 3 pick and still pulled off some great picks.
Here's one measure for long term growth or damage which move(s) are haunting this team that has no fixes?

This is total horsepoop as he’s not been rebuilding at anytime while spending to the cap. When his plans/teams continually failed he’d start to tank it up in February, I’ll give him that.
2016 he traded away our 1st rnd pick McCann, the 33rd overall pick (our 3rd round pick for Pedan) and our 4th round pick to acquire Gudbranson so they could be competitive not rebuild, Jesus Christ man.
He finished 2nd last in the league and entered the draft with only six picks, and that’s only because he got two back from trading Lack. - LeftCoaster
Guddy was 24 and he thought he was getting a top4 dman to anchor his te physically. That failed miserably. Should we talk about the trades and signings that have gone well, or just about the mistakes?
Which GM in your mind hasn’t made a mistake? |

Bullsh it, he guided a sh it load of sh it talent from the cellar and into a young competitive team. That’s a fact. Team was just about to go on a 11 game winning streak to take the division lead.
But good ole Lefty can’t get past his closed mindedness, pea brain hatred |

I tried watching SNL today prerecorded obviously. Tom Hanks hosting, all skits and everything done remotely from their homes. I lasted 15 minutes.
The one man skits were horrible. I did not know when commercials ended and skits started.
If this is TV of the future for the next year or two yikes. |

Who was it that wanted a fun losing team not long ago? Could it be the same group shltting on JB now? Well isn’t it ironic that we have both a fun & competitive team that still doesn’t satisfy them. |

It has absolutely nothing to do with the team, or the “fun losing” that was said to be an acceptable outcome.
It’s pure hatred for Mr. Benning nothing else, Lefty couldn’t give two sh its for the Canucks. Notice how the flyers, no matter they canned a really lame duck GM that was guiding the flyers into the deepest depths of crappiness, Lefty will defend him as the flyers best GM ever.
Again nothing to do with the Canucks other than hatred of Benning. |

The Pacific Mausoleum Syndrome lives on.
Didn’t like it then don’t like it now.
As for Philly they have taken a very long time to become relevant being in the ol boys club with Snyder & gang. Yet they’ve won nothing. Double standards 😂 |

It's more than that, he expects a GM to somehow draft 1st overall every year, while simultaneously signing premium FAs to league minimum contracts, make the playoffs every year and dump all his UFAs at the TD for multiple 1st round picks. Otherwise you're a crappy GM. |
|
|
|
It's sure nice to see that isolation is keeping people as dumb as ever. |

Adding to that a case of white out for mistakes inherited & be perfect like so many other GM’s in the league lol |

He cleaned it up real good with Loui Sutter Ganger Beagle Roussell Spooner all while trading away the most draft picks in the leagie since je started. He is definately getting better because they decided to build properly somewhat. When july 1 comes put the damn phone away.
