these types of statements can be used to justify anything. "mg did the best he could with the goalie situation because that's where the market was and you can't force another gm to make a trade." see how weak that sounds?
"you make your own luck," is exactly right. jb should have forced things and made his own luck with respect to acquiring more picks.
throwing the blame to a lack of a tear down on the owner makes jb sound weak. basically you're saying that he didn't have the conviction to say what he truly believed. either that or he agreed with the re-tool on the fly model. either way, i think he was wrong. - RealityChecker

Actually it isn't a new era. It was the TL/Benning era until TL changed his mind and wanted to go another way (full rebuild.). Now it's a continuation of the same era but only Benning. It's been the same philosophy and same types of moves since day 1 of Benning's tenure. |

I’ll live with Miller which TL probably wouldn’t abide by. |

And I think Benning will mismanage the cap so that when the team should be making deals to get the "win now" players (in 2ish seasons), they will be limited by cap space. |

I don’t have tarot cards nor am I a pessimist. Lol
Besides i also don’t think ‘win now’ deals should be necessary. |

You mean besides the ones up to this point?
I admire your optimism in JB changing his philosophy. |

As we are now constructed it’s about cap management to keep this group together. Core players are in place. The next tier is coming along. The prospect pool is very healthy as the next wave. More good drafting is a continuous need to state the obvious. Our UFA’s & RFA’s gotta be on board if they wanna be a part of it or move on. Team depth is looking very good. |

Yes I believe JB has put those ‘win now’ type pieces in place. Not saying I like them all but time will have some expire or moved out as other players push the compete level. |

All good. Just saying fire someone is an easy out. Hard part is the replacement. Looking around the league teams that have constant turnover generally continue to suck. |

Canucksarmy piece on Pettersson.

SO basically you are looking at Barzal and Laine as the basis for Petterson. Laine 2 years 6.75m and Barzal undetermined. I think i am right in a 6-7 year deal around 9-10m for Pettersson. |

I will be shocked if after this pandemic we come out on the other side offering 9 mil contracts.
I think sports and entertainment will take a big hit this year and even bigger hit next year. |

There is that and also people not working for months won't be able to afford it unless ticket prices are 20 .00 |
