As the days get warmer and the pandemic subsides I can see some pushback from the NHLPA. - LeftCoaster
I agree but I disagree. At first blush, I could see some players thinking that it's better just to cancel the season and start the next one on time.
The reason I think they can be so casual is because... they have already received almost all of their pay for the season. Remember that they are paid bi-monthly from beginning of October until the middle of April (the time period is defined in the CBA.) That means that they were only due 1 or 2 more paychecks at most before the stoppage happened. They don't get paid for the playoffs and winning a cup in August may seem tainted.
However, once they get reminded that the league desperately needs playoff revenue to help their bottom line, they'll probably warm up to playing in the summer. All that missing revenue means total revenue decreases and not only will they have lost money put in escrow, they may have to kick in more.
At the end of the day, the PA and league will do what's best financially (provided health issues are accounted for.)

You always like to have your cake and eat it too, we’ll you can’t have it both ways all the time....pick a side
my prediction: the league is a copycat league. if the nba plays, the nhl will. they won't be the first league to announce anything publicly.
i'd bet the nba plays this summer which means that the nhl will.
as to the format? i'll go off the board. some format that will allow a play-in for bubble teams. - RealityChecker
A 31 team round robin East/West & Division. Rank the top 3 per division and the next two best teams per conference. That gives you 16 playoff teams and a mini “regular season”

I am not questioning your format .
If there is a 31 team RR format that means every team made the playoffs and would mean an equally scaled draft lottery.

No, it’s a tournament to get into the playoffs. You play your division rivals once. This gets the top three teams per division. 12 teams, plus the next two best teams per conference. So each team plays about another 6 games (regular season) which determines playoff seeding.

Again nothing against your format or anyone else's I understand we are just throwing out ideas but if a team is playing in a playoff or any type of elimination game and gets a 30 % shot at the first over all I would be pissed.
Bettman was just on CNN and said he understands that it is possible that there is no return and it is out of their control. He said they are monitoring it daily.

I'll be enjoying the garden, going for swims at the river and do a little camping. Enjoy staying indoors, watching games in soul-less empty arenas with players barely invested in the games.

Drew Doughty says he doesn't see how the NHL season is going to restart this summer. But if it does? "In all seriousness it’s not going to be like winning a real Stanley Cup.” - VANTEL
He should go work on his golf & watch the games lol
Panarin: 'Unfair' if Rangers left out of playoffs.
Have to agree with him , there is no fair way to determine who makes the playoffs unless they completed the schedule. Thirty two team bracket best 2 of 3 for first round then a 3 of 5 for the top 16 then regular 4 of 7. - VANTEL
20 teams
Wild card 1st round of 8 teams 2 of 3
2nd round best of 5
3rd & 4th & 5th rounds best of 7

I hear what you're saying but I was watching women's curling 2 weeks ago because there were no other sports. I'm looking forward to being out and about but having some sports on will definitely be nice. BBQ and playoffs sounds nice to me.

you still don't get it. If you make it out of the round robin, you are in the playoffs. If you don't make it into the playoffs, you are a "non-playoff" team, and in the lottery, ranked by your round robin record.
Honestly, I don't really care, I hope they just shut it down until the fall, but Lefty(?) said there were only two options. RC suggested another, and I another...

I do get it trust me . I am just pointing out a flaw that my team and a bottom team have an equal opportunity on the last day of the season to make the cup playoffs . Anyone can win any one given game. So we both play the game and if they lose they get a 33 % chance at the first overall draft pick and if my team loses they get a 2% chance at the pick.
If they go with that format that all teams can make the playoffs in a one game series then all losers have to be given the same equal opportunity at the lottery.

Even when the games played on their schedule I never watched real time, if they come back in the warm weather I still won’t watch real time.
Everything is recorded and watched when the days chores or workload, entertainment is over. Neither of us have a need to be plugged into any media, so if I watch a game the next day it’s still new to me.
Enjoy the outdoors, be safe, hockey will be waiting for you, not you waiting for it.

If they do something like that or a mini-play in, I would wager they'd set the draft order by winning % at time of stoppage.
