NHL players have deferred their decision on the last paycheque until May 15. Sense is this will allow more time for the NHL and NHLPA to figure out if there will be games this season... Players have been debating whether to forgo some or all of the last paycheque to help escrow

A reminder that the NHL instructed its owners when the season went on pause March 12 to pay the players their remaining three paycheques (two in March, one in April)

Maybe someone can answer this?
If players do forgo their last pay check in full or partial will that affect this years cap hit?
For example if Loui was slated to get 6 mil and gives up his last paycheck it would bring his salary to 5.5 mil . That is a savings of half a mil. Would Canucks cap hit for 2019 then be 500 k less ?
The reason I ask this is Canucks can use that cap space to pay off rookie bonuses this year . Rookie bonuses are 3.7 that will count against next year.
You can't pay off RB with LTIR but could you pay them off with the cap space the team would get by player salary cut back? |

I Think... that in order to activate LTIR you need to be at the upper limit of the salary cap. LTIR simply is the amount you are allowed to exceed the cap by in order to replace an injured player. I could be off base on this, Whitie is the one who likes to read the CBA and quote it for pages on end...
So short answer, no, I don’t think it would make a difference. |

I am not sure I am asking it right. I am sort of familiar with LTIR and that is something different.
I am looking at trying to pay off the rookie bonuses this year instead of having the 3.7 carry over to next year.
If Players defer their last paycheck it is roughly 6-8 mil in savings for the team and Canucks can then pay off the Rookie Bonus instead of carrying it to 2020
Another thing is seeing the season isn't officially over Canucks could go from a 23 team roster to a 20 team roster and save 3 mil in cap for this year. A savings of three mil again can be used to pay the rookie bonus. |

Yeah, no idea how the league will handle this if they don’t play out the season. Thing is, if they go to a smaller roster to save cap space, then any LTIR $ they had marked would fit under the cap. I dunno, going to need a capologist to sort through this. |

While on pause doubt player movement on paper possible for reducing roster. IF there is a resumption they would want to load up to be competitive.
You're right on LTIR if they activate Ferland they'll have no recourse but to defer the rookie bonuses. |

You are wrong on the first part . There have been signings in the last few days and I have seen player movement of players put on waivers and sent down not requiring waivers'
The second part I have no idea what you are talking about. |

Sitting on a bar stool, touching the stool, top/bottom of the counter, a coaster, glass, other patrons, bathroom door handle, your Johnson, the water taps and soap pump, paper towel holder, debit credit terminal AND lifting your mask every few minutes to take a drink kind of defeats the purpose of wearing a mask... - 1970vintage

I'm aware of signings are they not for next season or extensions. Can you reference the non waiver player movement that is surprising.
The second part has to do with LTIR use and agreement with Vintage. Plus, if season resumes Ferland has said he's ready to be activated. That would, among other things, require cap room such as deferring those rookie bonuses. |

I'm trying to have a hockey discussion but like all season miserable man does his BS and he knows what I am saying because he does it all the time.
On player movement and Canucks not deferring rookie bonuses I'm not sure what you suggested is possible. If it was open to them now wouldn't their cap gurus be doing it?
I think the players deferred their paychecks not to lose more in escrow and in hopes the season will resume later. |

Dr. Bonnie Henry says parades, fairs and festivals "won't be happening this summer." So no PNE, no Pride Parade, no Cloverdale Rodeo, etc. And no large weddings or funerals.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not that anyone cares but I guess Double A baseball and CFL is not happening this year. |
