Whatever the outcome of the next American election, whether Trump gets four or eight years, I can’t wait until his ass is gone. So tired hearing about that orange turd. - bloatedmosquito
he's the perfect encapsulation of where society is right now (he is the embodiment of the zeitgeist): money (however it's gotten), celebrity vis-a-vis social media savvy and being caustic/polarizing. he may be dumb but he's not stupid. his supporters on the other hand...

Can you honestly see the Beta beating him in the next election? I don't think it will be even close. |

I can just because they can point to his record and demand change. A smear campaign should be pretty easy to devise. |

you’re missing the point. Say it out loud with a French Canadian accent. Makes more sense then. |

I just don’t see how he gets away with it unless the majority are own board, It’s not that it couldn’t be I just think it would be a hard sell/hard to get away with.
Players would be suspicious as well, if they really suspected refs of this kinda stuff. As pacificgem said, they put the whistles away in the playoffs, it’s a time honored tradition. - neem55
You are correct that Refs typically put the whistles away for PO's...fairly common knowledge. It's not like they can outright fix games (although the NBA refs did it and were caught) but games can be 'influenced' one way or the other. Rules changes during the SCF which were normally reserved for GM meets and off season as well. The Rome type hit was getting 1 game suspensions through those whole 2011 PO's. But Bettman/Campbell chose to suspend Rome for the duration of the SCF which was bullish!t.
On the reffing in the 2011 SCF I will say that Rourke and Walkom were pretty fair to both teams in most of the games they riffed. But it was clear after a certain point that Sutherland and O'Halloran had it in for Van. Now can one say they got the 'golden suitcase' from Bettman lol which has been claimed by many others or was it just blind bias by the refs. Always a debate but I think it was pretty obvious the league wanted Boston to win after a certain point. My opinion anyways which a lot of non-Canuck fans here said we got screwed as well.
A major American sportswriter wrote years ago when Bettman took over in 93 and the Habs surprised the Kings in the final (and you can bet your next 52 pay checks that Bettman wanted Gretzky to get that cup for LA) and he said 'enjoy it now Canada as you will never see a CDN cup champion under Bettman' lol...and look what we have.
Just have a look at some of the cups under Bettman that have been under scrutiny:
1994 VAN/NYR Quinn was fined after gm 7 for calling out Garys refs publicly.
1999 BUF/DAL foot in the crease incident.
2004 CGY/TBAY Gelina scores the potential cup winner gm 6 not allowed
2006 EDM/CAR Canes took out Roloson on purpose no recourse or suspensions
2007 OTT/ANA... ANA was allowed to 'bully' their way through every team. DET took the worst of it.
On and on and I'm sure there's lots more.
Now ere these games outright fixed? Probably not but there is influence one way or the other. It's a business and Gary sure know how to take care of his ownership base.

There’s major ref (frank)ups in every sport, weve seen how much the astros are getting flack for cheating. A ref scandal would cripple the league, just my opinion but I don’t think so. The catch 22 of it is you don’t know cheating until it’s exposed, much like the astros or patriots. |

There are two seasons every year . Regular season is a more skilled tighter called season and then the PO where a lot more happens.
You either need to have a team that can play both styles or have some reserves in the minors that you can call up for the playoffs when things get a little tougher. Obviously option A is the better choice.
After reading about Ferland and his problems if he did come back healthy for the playoffs that could be huge. Most likely he comes back and skates two shifts and returns to the LTIR.
Canucks will come back healthy if they do return and a lot more options including Ferland Leivo Graovac if needed.
Brad Marchand said the other day the young teams have the advantage after the lay off and I think he is right. I would love to hear in the POs Its September.

I agree with all of it but the ‘not stupid’ part. He’s playing a very dangerous game. There are some serious underlying issues in that society and he’s using those issues for personal gain. Doesn’t take a genius to push those buttons but I don’t think he’s smart enough to realize the long term ramifications of his actions.
He’s popular now but history will not be kind to him. |

Oh, but the weather sucks so bad. If you like sitting in your kitchen for nine months of the year then Nfld is the perfect place to live. |

The episode of the Blacklist last night was excellent. It showed gun sales and how the US protected their rights to carry guns. One vigilante could change a way a person thinks about them. |

Sitting on a bar stool, touching the stool, top/bottom of the counter, a coaster, glass, other patrons, bathroom door handle, your Johnson, the water taps and soap pump, paper towel holder, debit credit terminal AND lifting your mask every few minutes to take a drink kind of defeats the purpose of wearing a mask... |
