all of the mainstream media are looking for scoops and 'sensationalism'.
there is virtually never a true search for actual data.
this is true as well in particular since 90+% of journalists aren't particularly bright - they report on things which they don't really can get an understanding of.
(it is why mainstream media are more and more bringing in 'human interest stories' and even gossip)

Apparently the cops shot him:

Doesn't surprise me - they call this "suicide by cop." Cowards place themselves in a situation where the cops have to kill them, because they are too chicken-poop to kill themselves. - Atomic Wedgie
I don’t know that I’d call this just suicide by cop. He could have achieved that without taking out so many other people. There certainly seems to have been some homicidal rage driving this, strong enough that having himself offed seemed to be part of the bargain.
Anyway, hopefully people who actually know this will provide some answers. |

I always wonder in these cases - and maybe some of the weapon expert on here can help - aren't there sniper rifles with tranquilizer darts avaible for humans?
so instead of killing someone, tranquilizing him?
maybe range isn't sufficient, or the time between the dart hitting him and actually being tranquilized is too long? |

With the right papers this could be done for a film production....or fake production - Fakepartofme
Interesting. Seems risky though. It looked like he planned this for a while. I would have to think that he wouldn't risk exposing what he was doing by taking the work elsewhere, even with falsified papers...

after watching CBC's reporting from Gillam Manitoba last summer, I am convinced that even what the CBC reports should be taken with a grain of salt |

Would be much more concerned about the victims, their famiies and the prevention of such a heinous act than saving the life of such a waste of humanity.

In most countries, 'journalism studies' aren't even at University level.
And even when at University, no entry level requirements.
When you look at people at your school that were brightest in class, did you ever see anyone of them chosing to go for a career in 'mainstream journalism'? |

They have close quarter "bean bag" guns, but the suspect had already killed multiple people and shot at cops. No chance they were gonna use non lethal weapons.
They had to use bullets. |

I'm thinking that killing such a person is the 'easy way out'.
Would be better to have him beaten up constantly and eventually shanked in jail imo. |

Certainly one point of view. The man was obviously deranged. Energy and money should stil be prioritized to the innocent victims' families, including the RCMP officer who's two children don't have a mother now. Preventative measures should also be made - mitigating future attempts by similar lunatics. Saving the life of such a sack of sh!t to make sure he suffers should not be a priority IMO.

Some journalists are lucky enough and good enough to be able to focus on a certain subject for a long time and gain a solid understanding of the field. But for the most part they are not trained experts in that field. If they’re good, they develop a range of contacts, an ability to sort through bullpoop versus some degree of truth and take complicated topics and make them understandable.
You’re fooling yourself if you don’t think that all takes skill or that you don’t ha e to be bright to do it well. A lot of the poop uncovered about guys like Nixon and Trump came from journalists. Since they’re not experts, obviously they are vulnerable and anybody who really knows an issue can point to errors.
Much of journalism is less expertise driven and involves running down fairly boring stories. It’s a good place for people new to the field to learn how to run down stories.
poop like yesterday happens in a fog with a lot of confusion. What we see is a tension between wanting to share information about what is going on and nobody really knowing what’s going on. Official police statements might be holding things back while all kinds of stuff is swirling. This is where media has more trouble and will often push stuff out too early.
Anyway, I’ve know lots of very smart journalists. The person leading Canada through the pandemic right now is a former journalist. (I know you could have done a better job, etc) |

you're basically pointing out that there are 10% of journalists that are bright and objective. (i agree with a lot of points you make, but when you're relatively close to a specific topic (in general, not this specific case) it becomes very obvious that the press in general isn't very well informed, nor are journalist making a real effort in being so. lots of 'media coverage' is copy paste as well - without vetting information.
