I think we need Kap and Engvall. If Spezza re-signs for a 1 yr deal, could potentially move Kerfoot and his $3.5M contract - PatC80
I don’t really agree.
If they sign Petro and get rid of Kerfoot you are asking Dubas to find cheap replacements every year for the 3C and the 4C. If JT or Matthews goes down then you are asking a cheap FA to play 2C.
Not happening. |

So you're telling me she hates the City of St. Louis for allowing the Rams to leave, and wants to move as soon as possible? - Atomic Wedgie
You’d think living in St.Louis in general would be enough.
But I’m sure the NFL crossed the line. She can be a Raptors cheerleader. |

He can only offer the money if he trades away some players. Like I said in the last post.
Hyman-AM-Nylander
Mikheyev-JT-Marner
?-Kerfoot-?
?-Spezza-?
Rielly-Petro
Muzzin-Holl
Sandin-Liljegren
Worth it? That bottom 6 would be dependent on Robertson and/or Barabanov working out and the Leafs getting cheap contracts to fill it out.
As we learned this season the team can’t have a weak bottom 6 it’s too easy to exploit. Are they a better team with getting rid of Kap/Johnnson/Dermott? Probably if they can fill out the bottom 6 successfully.
Edit: throw Engval in there as well - Santo_44
Where's Engval?

Maybe, at times this season, Engvall has played some C, I do like his size.. If he can learn how to play center that would be great. |

They’d have to move out 2 out of Kap, Johnnson, Kerfoot.
May be even looking at Dermott if he wants too much.
Assuming the cap is flat he could probably get
6x8-9 on the open market. - Santo_44

I don't think it'd be overly hard to trade any of them. Get picks in return?
And I don't think Dermott would/will be getting too much on his next deal.
If I had to fill in some of the ?'s in your lineup-
Hyman-AM-Nylander
Mikheyev-JT-Marner
Engvall-?-Kap
Clifford-Spezza-La Chèvre
Rielly-Petro
Muzzin-Dermott
Sandin-Liljegren
I traded Kerfoot instead of Kap. And Holl to re-sign Dermott.
IF Robertson can actually make the jump to the NHL next season, Put Engvall at 3C and Mikheyev down to 3LW and Robertson on Tavares' wing. So-
Hyman-AM-Nylander
Robertson-JT-Marner
Mikheyev-Engvall-Kap
Clifford-Spezza-La Chèvre
Rielly-Petro
Muzzin-Dermott
Sandin-Liljegren
Freddy
Campbell
No clue what it comes to CAP-wise, or if it even works but, I don't hate it. You? |

Half the season Engvall barely looked like an NHL player.
I like Engvall and I think he will be a good bottom 6 player for the Leafs but he should not be relied upon as a 3C going into the season. Let’s start on hoping he can be a decent winger again first. |

Yeah that would be over the cap 100%.
The Leafs would need to move out 8 million in cap next season meaning Kap and Johnnson plus the 1.5-2 million that was going to go to Dermott.
And I would be pretty bummed to see Dubas putting all his eggs in one basket in Engvall since he was wildly inconsistent and there being huge question marks if he can even play Center regularly in the first place.
We learned this season that having a poor bottom 6 isn’t good. |

If St. Louis doesn't sign him before free agency and he meets with teams about signing with them, I'd be shocked if Dubas doesn't offer a whole lot of money. - GreatGigInTheSky
Offer a lot of money?
Where does he get the cap space for this alot of money on a 29/30 year old?
Are the leafs gonna have 6-7 high end players and then ahlers? |

Out-
Johnsson- $3.5
Kerfoot- $3.5
Ceci- $5
Holl-$2
Mikheyev, Dermott, Spezza, and Clifford need new deals and they won't break the bank and Pietrangelo gets paid.
I don't overly feeling like Mathing, but that's not enough out? |

It can be done with the Leafs being a better team.
People just have to realize Johnnson/Kap and likely Dermott would have to be moved.
Just like TB and when they were after JT...high end players can be added to any team. You just have to get rid of some average ones. |

Well first of all they would need to add a center who they know can play C above the 4th like consistently. That will cost more than league minimum.
On top of that Hyman and Freddy are in need of a new deal after this season. With zero players of significance coming off the books then they will need money for then too.

It’s pretty much impossible to tell how much Pietrangelo can expect to get in this environment. He’d probably not want to sign for more than a year or two. Maybe he’ll stay put. |

With the expected flat cap it isn’t too difficult to figure out the expected number.
STL seemed to have no problem signing Scandella. It’s not a complete mystery.

Kap is better than Kerfoot, so I'd prefer the Leafs keep him. But if the Leafs are more worried about having Kerfoot for centre, then they'd do it.
That's a problem for after the next season. The Leafs can go hard on next season with their best players. After that, they can cross the trade Bill Ny or something bridge to fit under the following seasons CAP. |
