Deal - VANTEL
|

To be honest I can't even try to attach dollar amounts to contracts right now, so I won't. I agree though, if he wants a reasonable deal then by all means sign it here. It might take 4 years though. - golfingsince
It does come down to the decision of the NHL |

i think he'll get 5 years at 6m. risk/reward but that seems like a deal that jb would do.
edit: lefty beat me to the numbers. he's pretty fast for a fat guy. - RealityChecker
I think numbers are largely irrelevant right now seeing as how we don't really know what the cap will look like moving forward, that's why I won't even try to speculate. |

Just gonna put it out there, $5M a year might seems like a really large number by this time next year. |

I think it is a great idea too . My charity would be Food Bank. Vintsy can pick the other one. Obviously the honor system is in effect .Hopefully everyone can be as trusted as Kramer

I'm going with a local Comox Valley charity, YANA , You Are Not Alone. A homelessness and mental health charity that helps folks on the fringe or beyond. |

i'm basing it off the nhl's proclamation of a flat cap next year.
i think they'll adjust the cap but perhaps not this season. in any event, the salaries will be based on the cap and it doesn't seem that they (NHL and NHLPA) want to make drastic decisions just yet.
however, we all know that the covid situation changes everything almost daily/weekly/monthly so i know where you're coming from. |

Homeless is a great charity.
I always go to the food bank for the single parents to feed the kids. |

since side threads are a favourite thing amongst us canuckHBers, perhaps someone should start one and we can all post. that way, we'll have a record.
i just set up a thread folks so get on it if you'd like. if you don't you're a loser who knows nothing about hockey and is a wishy washy loser.

Next year 6 million for Saad, or 7 million for JVR, or 6 million for Eriksson, etc, etc, is going to hurt teams wanting to improve, sign kids coming out of ELC’s or re-sign some players. |

They could do something rather drastic or could face losing a number of teams. I mean how much money is there for hockey in Florida for instance if the economy is depressed and travel restrictions are upheld at least to a certain extent. |

the CBA expires in 2023 so i could see them institute a flat cap for the next couple of seasons and just take money back through escrow. then they can adjust everything with a new cba.
blessing in disguise is that the players and owners could have opened up the CBA last summer. if they had, it would really be a sh!t show now if they would have to open back up a brand new CBA. |

I think they'll reduce the cap effect of previously signed contracts, offer buyouts of scale depending on the severity of the economic fallout. The wealthier teams will likely benefit but they'll also be propping up the poorer teams.
The NHLPA will be involved but we're also talking about losing a larger percentage of membership if actions aren't taken. The only way I can even remotely see another solution is if AD revenue rises substantially which I doubt happens. |

I was off, YANA helps families with medical expenses which is fantastic but the charity I was thinking of is Dawn to Dawn Action on Homelessness Society in the Comox Valley. Unfortunately, so many great charities to choose from. |

I like Markstrom . I hope he comes in for 3 years at 5 mil . I would like to see him be part of the team and I am pretty sure they will figure it out . If he decides he wants a home run contract I hope it is not here. - VANTEL
He's staying. Why would you be worried about the money and term? |

i think their reasoning might be: live it out for 2 seasons to see where they're at. a revenue split based on the CBA already allows for a reduction in salary cap via escrow.
i could see the nhl providing assistance for revenue strapped teams through money re-distributed from escrow. also, i can see the league giving financial assistance through block payments during the season to teams that can't make payroll.
put another way, an $80m cap with 25% paid back through escrow etc., would effectively be a $60m cap without having to re-write the CBA.
i don't know if they can or will agree on a new number for the cap this summer. i was of the opinion that there would be drastic changes this summer but now i'm not sure. i think they'll punt it to the new CBA while trying to mitigate damage until then. |

I just look at teams like the Leafs and Rangers with all kinds of money being able to manipulate the situation. Therefore there will be buyouts. |
