I just look at teams like the Leafs and Rangers with all kinds of money being able to manipulate the situation. Therefore there will be buyouts. - golfingsince
I wonder how many free agents are going to want to live on the North East area this year especially NY or Mass |

i think there will be buyouts too but when is the question. i believed they would happen this summer but i'm not so sure now.
getting back to the markstrom discussion, if the cap is flat, i don't think his ask comes down too much. i'm not sure jb will say "sure the cap is $80m but i'm not spending to that." he may but other teams won't so he'll have to compete with those other offers.
this summer might not be the best time to be a UFA but it might be a LOT better than being one next summer. at least this summer, the cap will be the same for next year because there is no modelling to predict next year's revenues. |

it would be hilarious if the small town teams eg edmonton, columbus, winnipeg etc., become desired places to play because they are less densely populated cities with less chance to get the Rona. |

Players will get offered 1 year deals, by teams that can afford to pay it. |

I could see Vancouver benefiting if it does. Our numbers are good and climate is great and of course the city |

Good point. Maybe they'll have more clarity when it's time to sign FA's. |

I am willing to bet a 20.00 donation to the charity of your choice that next year they are a top 10 team and cap compliant. - VANTEL
They'll improve but top 10 might be a stretch. 10-16 Should be the case. I thought 16-21 this year and we were right there in it. Regardless of what happens to the season this year they will be a PO team next season.

they'll get offered 1 year deals but they'll still want long term ones. there's always going to be some gm's offering longer term deals. and thus you (JB) has to compete with them too.
plus, if you (in the general sense) foresee an x% clawback on all salaries in the next couple of seasons or through the new CBA, it doesn't hurt to offer longer term deals since you know they'll get discounted as well.
i still think markstrom gets a longer term deal this summer. |

The expansion draft next summer might make it appealing for some players to become UFA then. It gives them the option of where they want to play and not have to sweat whether or not they will be protected.

i didn't see but doesn't that largely have to do with the meat plant in vancouver that had a lot of new cases (20+). they were reported but not listed in yesterday's briefing.
either way... fcuk! |

i think he'll get 5 years at 6m. risk/reward but that seems like a deal that jb would do.
edit: lefty beat me to the numbers. he's pretty fast for a fat guy. - RealityChecker

Just out of curiosity if a player accepts a 1x4.5 deal vs 3x3 does a rollback affect his actual dollars year 1?
I mean you still would have 2 years to collect another 5+ |

but next summer, the revenue picture will be a lot clearer. if revenues go down significantly next season, next year will be the worst time to be a UFA.
if that happens, i could see players wanting 1 or 2 year deals hoping that revenues go back up.
so, i still say that this summer is better than next summer to be a UFA. |
