it would be hilarious if the small town teams eg edmonton, columbus, winnipeg etc., become desired places to play because they are less densely populated cities with less chance to get the Rona.
- RealityChecker

lol not likely. LA, Vegas, NYR, Warm Climate NHL locations will pretty much always be the norm.

i think there will be buyouts too but when is the question. i believed they would happen this summer but i'm not so sure now.

getting back to the markstrom discussion, if the cap is flat, i don't think his ask comes down too much. i'm not sure jb will say "sure the cap is $80m but i'm not spending to that." he may but other teams won't so he'll have to compete with those other offers.

this summer might not be the best time to be a UFA but it might be a LOT better than being one next summer. at least this summer, the cap will be the same for next year because there is no modelling to predict next year's revenues.

- RealityChecker

Presuming Marky fields other UFA offers is premature.

Just out of curiosity if a player accepts a 1x4.5 deal vs 3x3 does a rollback affect his actual dollars year 1?

I mean you still would have 2 years to collect another 5+

- golfingsince

a rollback will happen based on total league revenue i.e. escrow. in either instance if total teams' payroll exceeds 50% (i can't remember the exact split listed in the CBA) of total league revenue, the amount paid extra to players is returned to the league.

escrow is just a withholding until the final accounting is done.

so it doesn't really matter because it's all based on total league revenue for the given nhl season.

I'll take the bet and no to top 10. PO's yes but top 10 no.

If I lose then we have a local Mental Health charity here that my GF and I donate to.

The cap 'issues' well #teamwhiner can go hard on that lol

true enough. We just heard today that May long weekend restrictions should start being lifted most likely in two week increments. see where it goes I guess. Was hoping for May 1 but it is what it is.

If the cap shrinks do league minimum? Is that how the language works?

A lot has to happen for a top 10 next year is it possible? Sure but not likely. 50 shots per game needs to go away fast which is one of the reasons I want EDler gone. Scoring won't be a problem but defending will be. Those shots need to come down.

AP is an example of what we need if Edler/Tanev are gone. Quality not quantity.

I will throw this out also I bet at the next CBA there will be a cap on second contracts or players leaving ELC. Or ELC gets bumped to 5 years

Some of these numbers are crippling teams.

Best to drop the 15% max cap contract for starters. Make it 12%. Add to that on 3 players can be max. 10% from there on.

Shorten term from7/8yrs to 6.
Give teams the option in year 6.

Remove trading of LTIR contracts.
