I will throw this out also I bet at the next CBA there will be a cap on second contracts or players leaving ELC. Or ELC gets bumped to 5 years
Some of these numbers are crippling teams. - VANTEL
I can see it, might be a shorter agreement. |

I had a job in there years ago I walked in and walked right back out. |

If the cap shrinks do league minimum? Is that how the language works? - golfingsince
no, i don't believe so. the maximum is set as a % of the cap but the minimum has been defined as a set dollar amount per year.
however, all players regardless of pay would still give back the same % of salary to bring the overall payroll in line with overall league revenue. |

It (frank)ing stinks! The worst part of my day every day was when the chicken truck drove by. But whatever, we were close to downtown, commercial, paid little for rent and were young. I think we paid $720 for a 3 bedroom apartment. |

but next summer, the revenue picture will be a lot clearer. if revenues go down significantly next season, next year will be the worst time to be a UFA.
if that happens, i could see players wanting 1 or 2 year deals hoping that revenues go back up.
so, i still say that this summer is better than next summer to be a UFA. - RealityChecker
To me, it's kinda pick your poison at this point. I can't see one year being better than the other considering the infinite amount of variables at play right now for both years.
1 or 2 year contracts carry their own risks and historically players prefer term under any circumstance. |

doesn't the nbc broadcast deal end soon?
that was the worst deal that the league made and it was clear then.
they gave away digital rights for 10 years i believe.
all the other sports have shown that the real money in the future will come from digital rights. even if the league wanted to set up an app or online pay per view/season right now they couldn't.
they need (and of course will) set up a subscription service when they get those rights back. |

these are big money decisions. players/agents/teams are playing with real money. a wrong decision means 100,000s of dollars to millions.
we discuss this stuff loosely because we don't face any ramifications. however, i can only imagine the stress when you're actually in that situation. |

It does end soon , I think next year .
I wonder how exciting broadcasting to silent arenas is going to affect the renegotiation ? |

if they're silent arenas, that means people are mostly at home. increased demand?

They'll play crowd noise, and place models throughout the stadium. That will drive demand for some of seats left after they remove 3/4 of them to comply with social distancing. |

Yup but here is the other side.
I watched SNL the other night seeing I was home and nothing to do . The affect and production was so poor I turned it off after 15 minutes. |

with respect to your question about minimum salaries, i just looked up the CBA. Article 11.12 states the minimum salary. it's listed as amount per year not as a set % of the cap. next year is $700k and the year after is $750k.
funnily enough, in terms of % of the cap, it's actually gone down since the first year that the cap started. it used to be a bit over 1% of the cap. now it's about 0.8-0.9% of the cap. |

but they'll have time to work out the situation. now days, everyone is just flying by the seat of their pants. with some time to sort things out, things should improve.
as others have said, you put a fan noise soundtrack or something of the sort.
i think people are really craving sport so i think a captive audience will boost numbers. right now, tv shows can only have people broadcasting from their own homes. that's weird when it's only 1 person on the screen. if sports comes back, everything is the same minus the audience. |

i'll bet you'll find a couple hours a day to watch hockey. people will be craving outdoor activities but it doesn't mean that they'll be outside 24/7.
and you can still set up a tv in the backyard. in fact, i'm looking forward to bbq and playoff hockey. |

It's a weird situation. The cap has never really gone down before or if so for any length of time. Let's say it shrinks substantially after next season then continues to slide for another year or two.

I remember when TSN or CBC had a strike and there were no announcers for CFL games . That was hard to take.
They will figure out something. |

It won't be the same although the sport should still be exciting. Crowd experience is a large part of the game for fans at the rink and at home as well as the players on the ice. |

That's what I predict. But I think they will have to re-negotiate some parts of it due to a revenue crash and teams going bankrupt. |

He is staying, great goalie. I would also like Toffoli signed, I also like Tanev but I feel less sure about him signing here. |
