It's a weird situation. The cap has never really gone down before or if so for any length of time. Let's say it shrinks substantially after next season then continues to slide for another year or two. - golfingsince
i think it probably will.
but that just means that all players will give back money as a set % once total revenues are calculated.
if the CBA was set to expire in several years, i would say they would have to make corrections sooner rather than later. since it expires in a couple seasons, i can see them waiting until then to do a major re-set.
this is a hard cap league. the salary paid to players will not go over 50% no matter what. it doesn't matter if your salary is $10m if you're giving back $2.5m. it's just a $7.5m contract written as 10. same with every other player.
that's why i think that marky gets $6m because at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what his (or any other player's) salary number is. the only thing that matters is total players' salaries as a % of total league revenue. every player will give back the same %.

these are big money decisions. players/agents/teams are playing with real money. a wrong decision means 100,000s of dollars to millions.
we discuss this stuff loosely because we don't face any ramifications. however, i can only imagine the stress when you're actually in that situation. - RealityChecker
True that. As has been intimated by a few on here, and I agree, there's probably going to be a shift in what players and owners value. Should make for some interesting contracts.

Who knows how many they've infected too since then since they all had it... showing just how much even with proper social distancing and quarantine that it sometimes doesn't always help.
