Facts, facts and facts. - Fidel
I mean, communism done properly is actually a very good way for society to exist. No more big Pharma, no more Jeff Bezos, no more Donald Trump. No more unemployment, no more homeless...
But I doubt she is a communist and I don’t believe you have any facts to back it up. |

He isn’t exactly a poster boy for how to do it properly. |

The further I think about Bettmans comments to Maclean the more I think there are going to be deep cuts when we come back .
A league can not exist losing 600 mil a year and returning to more record losses.
I think there is going to be serious reduction to current contracts and there will be little the NHLPA will be able to do about it. |

Lol, Merkel is hardly a communist. Hard to run Europe's largest economy while being one. She's a central-right person – but on the European spectrum, which is generally skewed more leftist. |

That's the problem, it can't be done properly.
Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
As long as there are humans involved, human natural will take over. Communism can never work, as well as pure Capitalism.
CCCP, Cuba, North Korea, no thanks. China is going to win, but I would never want to live under their regime. Same with the other end of the political spectrum Nazi Germany...ah...No.
The ideal system does not exist yet.

Exactly. The business model was tenuous in a lot of markets before the Covid. Bettman will never admit defeat on his own, but this this NWO problem is/will become more than he can juggle. Major reset coming. And yes, the Players/NHLPA will have no recourse in the end but accept it. |

i agree. communism is as bad as libertarianism. great in theory but can never work on a large scale. too idealistic in a world that deals with human nature. |

All I’m saying is that calling someone a “communist” is supposed to be some kind of insult, like calling someone gay (was in the past, and still is really when you think about people). And you’re right, those policies won’t work with humans, at least not as we are today, because we’re basically evil. Once the animals take over the planet, it will work much better. |

Speaking of N Korea. Trump wished Kim Jong Un good luck with him being brain dead.
I guess Trump is living proof that you can be brain dead and still play golf. |

the league can't do much without the PA's consent. both sides are bound by the CBA.
if the league wants to make changes, they'll have to convince the PA that it's in their best interests as well.
...but i can see where both sides will look at the situation and agree on a course of action. the best thing for both sides (not society in general) is for them to get back to playing so they can generate revenue. money always talks. |

They don’t actually need to adjust contracts as the real dollars that get paid are a percentage of actual revenue. Players salaries will get squeezed naturally and they will continue to sign contracts relative to their peers. Agents will still use Panarin as a comparable. |

How much revenue do you think they can generate playing to empty arenas? Most of the TV will already have been paid. Cable subscriptions, already bought. Merchandise? Nothing stopping people from buying that now, except a growing uncertainty of our ability to earn... I’m certainly not going to buy a new jersey because they are holding the cup finals in September... |

No fans going to the games and neutral sites , there will be no revenue.
Very little merch will be sold . Where are you getting the money to pay for current contracts.
Just an example : Pick any owner and tell him this year he has to pay 70-80 mil in salaries and another 100 million in other costs to make 150 million . |

here's the issue that i'm unclear about: broadcasting revenue.
even if the money has been paid out, will the league have to pay back a proportion of the money due to not providing the service? since approximately 1/5 of the games (i'm including playoffs) won't be available for broadcast, will the league have to return money since they did not provide the content.
in that scenario, the league will absolutely want to play.
that's why i've been confident that they'll find a way to play this season out. |
