Also Be Cool, the sequel to the masterpiece Get Shorty, pisses on the legacy of that film and is an abortion.

Alien 4 and 5 were similar legacy-destroying pieces of total poop.

Garbage movies off the top of my head-

Roller Town
Midsommar
The Witch
The Last Airbender ((frank) this movie)
Prometheus
Harry Potters
Every single Saw movie after the first one
Pink Panther remake

and in general the vast majority of horror films.

It's weird, because you are right about Prometheus, which was yet more desecration of the Alien legacy, and you're right about most horror is bad, but The Witch is a masterpiece.

Empire Strikes Back

Dark Knight

I love all of mother Nature’s creations, but Reeses and I have become close. He chased away a grackle yesterday, I was so proud of him for defending his food supply.

This place is littered with turkeys. So I’m sure Ferny is well fed. And if Reeses does get jacked, it’ll probably be Oliver the Owl who gets him.

Chipmunks and red squirrels would sneak into the roof of my cottage and piss all over the place and ruin poop.

So they can (frank) off to (frank)offsville for all I care.

Lol..

Yeah they nest in our garage, the squirrels do anyways.. the chipmunks prefer the wood pile for some reason.

My grandpa used to trap the squirrels on his property, then boat them out to an island

I hated The Witch so much.

I mean, I can understand why people would/could like it but, I really really did not.

Agree with many of these, and many horror movies suck, but its hard to dismiss a genre of films. I have studied some great directors academically. The Exorcist was a great movie - you might not like the subject matter - but that is a different issue. Many of Hitchcocks classics are considered horror films and the Shining was also top notch. Clockwork Orange is another terrific horror movie. Movies that are well done are supposed to evoke emotions, whether sadness, laughter, fright or just happiness if they are well done. Preference is different from whether a movie is well done or not.

Midsommar is a masterclass film in terms of building tension. The Director's Cut is great stuff.

Prometheus has some fantastic scenes and is gorgeous to look at. The problem is that it doesn't seem to know if it wants to be part of the Aliens franchise or its own thing. Plus, wtf is going on with the Engineer at the beginning of the film? And why is he such an asshat at the end of it?

Some great performances (Michael Fassbender is awesome) mixed with some dubious character choices (Guy Pearce's Weyland is such a (frank)ing cartoon).

Also, why can't Charlize Theron learn how to turn when a giant cylandrical-ish object is rolling straight for her?

Such a frustrating movie. But hey, Ridley Scott just doesn't seem to give a (frank) anymore, does he?

I love horror, I just think a lot of it is bad. And I'm jaded because I watched a ton of it growing up.

The Exorcist is the best ever imo. Interesting that you call Clockwork Orange horror...I'd probably call it science fiction, though it is horrifying.

As came up not too long ago, The Thing stands out for me...Let The Right One In...Dawn of the Dead...the originals in all cases

Ginger Snaps is a fantastic, overlooked gem of a Canadian horror movie.

I franking hated Dances with Wolves. Perhaps the most over-rated movie ever.

I've just had my first beer, so it's angry rant time.

Dances with Wolves isn't the worst.

Silence of the Lambs is the worst.

Anthony Hopkins is the worst franking over-actor of all time.

You want to see a scary Hannibal Lecter? Watch the original Manhunter, directed by Michael Mann.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091474/

100X scarier Dr. Lector. The guy plays it so cool.

The entire film is great. Super 80s vibe - it's like a Miami Vice show, but darker.

- Atomic Wedgie

Dances With Wolves is (frank)ing epic and one of the best Westerns of all-time. The extended cut is 4 hours long and I wish it was longer.

Did Goodfellas deserve the Oscar nod? Sure. But who (frank) cares about the Oscars anyway? So many dumb decisions and completely subjective anyway nonsense. Suffice it to say, in no way shape or form should Dances lose credibility as a film because it beat Scorcese's masterpiece in a garbage awards show.

Silence of the Lambs is also an incredible film. Anthony Hopkins can definitely chew scenery but he is pitch perfect in this movie (the less said about the sequels, the better).

Manhunter was pretty great but there's no universe where it's a better film than Silence. Brian Cox is a great actor but GTFO with this contrarian bull(poop).

Ridley Scott has gone into late period John Carpenter-level collapse from genius to wtf?

Prometheus felt like the very slow pilot episode of a tv series where you hope it gets better over the next few episodes. But it was a movie. That's bad. Why was Guy Pearce playing an old guy? It looked fake.

Don't even get me started on the last Alien movie, and I really hope it is the last one.

My grandpa went to much more extremes than yours.

We'd (me my cousins and brother) would use a pellet gun to stop them, whereas my grandpa would grab a rifle and then stuff the bodies down their holes to warn them. He was huge into hunting and killing animals.

The Exorcist is absolutely flawless. What makes it work is the alchemy of Christian superstition with the corruption of an innocent child. I think watching this film as a parent has made this movie even more psychologically terrifying than when I watched it as a kid.

Nothing beats John Carpenter's The Thing though. Tension, atmosphere, isolation, horrifically realized alien designs, and paranoia rolled up into one. Stellar cast led by a prime Kurt Russell and Keith David.

A Clockwork Orange is arguably Kubrick's best work. I also don't consider it a horror film nor science fiction but it certainly shares elements of both. It's a mix of dystopian themes and social/psychological satire. And so damn quotable... "The Durango '95 purred away a real horrowshow. A nice warm vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts!"

Hnourable mention for Prince of Darkness, a severely underrated and underappreciated horror classic. Man, Carpenter was the man in the 80s - unimpeachable greatness.

Such a perfect analogy and so true!

Totally agreed on the fake-as-hell looking "old" Guy Pearce. Man, he's usually a great actor but the makeup and the character just didn't work. At all.

The Exorcist is truly horrifying. Even now I find it difficult to watch. It isn't really shot like a horror movie. It feels more like a melodrama stylistically, so when then the horror plot begins to emerge it just feels real and awful. The Shining is like that too. It's very formal and measured for the genre, which makes it all the more horrifying.

Totally agree about The Thing. I love the ending with the two characters left standing, with neither they nor the audience knowing if either is the creature. "I guess we just wait and see what happens"...one of the great endings.

I also love Prince of Darkness...it's got its cheese factor but it's a classic.

While my mind is on the topic, Dead Ringers was another one that I think is great but almost too hard to watch. A lot of early Cronenberg is like that.

Why did they even cast Pearce in that role? It made zero sense at all. Did Scott owe him a favour? Watching it, you're like hey, that old man is Guy Pearce - why? That's all I could think. Why is Guy Pearce a fake old man?

It was like bad old person makeup on Star Trek: Next Generation. Like when they turned Brent Spiner into Data's creator. But there it made sense because it was Spiner, and presumably Data was made in his creator's image. And it was a relatively low budget tv show. How could old Guy Pearce be so bad in a contemporary big budget movie?

(frank) Ridley Scott.

I guess I've never understood the naysayers. Ever since it beat Goodfellas it seems to have garnered an unfair reputation as being "overrated". It's a shame it ran up against maybe the greatest movie of all-time to run against.

But it has wonderful performances, a compelling narrative, and some surprisingly thoughtful criticism per native treatment during Western/frontier expansion.

I do love the movie but I have yet to hear and really biting criticism from detractors that resonates with me. Naysayers typically point to the Goodfellas snub, a completely wrong-headed "white saviour" allegation, or some unrelated Kevin Costner hate (I'm not his biggest fan either).

Having said that, this is probably the most I've ever written in "defense" (if you could call it that) of the movie. I guess Coranavirus craziness has taken a hold of me tonight.
