I love the people who rip on Fox News, only to find out they watch MSNBC and CNN. - vabeachbear
Though, to be fair, the Fox news crowd is more likely to spout the whole "fake news" mantra if we are being honest.
Me? I think they are all full of poop

We agree a lot, duff. We just feel differently about drafting goalies early in the 1st RD.
And Russians. I have nothing against players from Russia. It is just that the Hawks have shown no ability to draft any worth a damn. |

Stanley Cup
Just trying to throw some hockey topics out there - AEL_Fox
Pucks - Can be used to squat the virus. Throw them at the virus so you don't get too close.
Sticks - used to keep others the required 6 feet from you. If they persist, one good swing will make them second guess.
Shin Pads - Great for kneeling and praying that this will all end, and we can get back so SOME version of life.
Goalie Masks - line with a cloth, you will be safe....AND most won't come within 6 feet of you either.
Overtime - What hospital workers have been doing in the hardest hit areas. Before going all-in on a re-open...ask those risking their lives if THEY are ok with it.
PP & PK. - Personal Protection & Patient Kare. - OK, taking liberties with the spelling of "Kare"....but, on my 3rd rum, so take it for what it is...
Stanley Cup - As a Hawk fan, I don't think this applies THIS year. Pandemic or no Pandemic. |

They seem to do quite well with signing Czechs though. And you can't discount Panarin.
Maybe that is the new strategy. The Hawks just sign 24 yr old players that other teams have given up on. |

So once we know how deadly COVID-19 is then it is ok to go back to normal? Or does it have to be a certain number of deaths before it is ok to go back to normal? Who determines that threshold?
Say we get a vaccine that protects 30% of the population. Is it ok at that point if the models only show 45k a year will die from COVID-19?
I guess just leave it up to the government to arbitrarily decide when we can have all our civil liberties back? - bhawks2241
Now you're catching on.
BTW, Dots is solely concerned with covid-19 deaths. He doesn't care if people die from other causes. He also doesn't care if other people lose their jobs. |

Then ban smoking, drinking alcohol, red meat, dairy, cars that go over 80mph, etc.
That will greatly reduce the mortality rate. We can do away with personal freedoms and free will.
Justifying the means by saying look we could have saved X number of lives based on the modeling that we already know has been proven wrong?
These models have been accounting for social distancing since March. Now we are learning the death rate of 2-3% is not even close.
You literally had doctors/scientists saying 40-50% of people are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms that were not being tested. Nevertheless death rates were/are being calculated based on confirmed cases only. Knowing full well that unless a patient shows severe symptoms they weren't being tested.
I have a problem with flawed statistics being repeatedly hammered into the American public's mind.
The modeling in Illinois was apparently off by a month...but that is because we have been social distancing (better than calculated in the modeling?). The logic is then well look our models show that we might have saved X amount of lives by doing this so lets keep doing it for another month.
We are justifying the stripping of civil liberties by our politicians who support the decisions based on modeling that we know is already extremely inaccurate! - bhawks2241
What changes might be forthcoming if a lawsuit successfully challenges the striping of out civil rights? Cannot 5u5m away people based.upon the construed opinion of the seriousness of symptoms? A new standard would have to be established for the admitance of people whom complain about corona symptoms? |

I am talking about drafting them only. Kravchuk is the only one they drafted that was worth a damn. Then they blew it by trading him for Joe (frank)ing Murphy.

The modeling wasn’t wrong - it was reasonable based on the known facts and assumptions used at the time.
Better knowledge of the facts, leading to better assumptions of the future, lead to better models - I am sure (although not part of the process) that the current models in use are better than the ones generated a month ago. - StLBravesFan
Incorrect. The IHME model was wrong within two days of every update. Often outside the hilariously wide 95% certainty cone with 4/5 days of each update. There would be no chance you would say that if you followed their site for the last couple months. |

What kind of ridiculous statement is this? You don't think the number would have been DRASTICALLY higher if not for the lock-down and distancing measures??? You ONLY look at American numbers and not the numbers they learned from from the countries that experienced this earlier. For all his dumb statements, at least Trump was smart enough to see what was coming and these measures kept MOST of the USA from becoming an Italy where hospitals were over flowing, people dying in the thousands and thousands and the economic cost may have been even worse, to go along with 5 or 10 or 100 times the death. Even Trump and his task force acknowledge that without the actions they took this virus would have crippled most of America.
Sure, open it all up. And YOU go in and work in the hospitals as they overflow with sick and dying patients in the thousands.
Sheesh..... - hawk35
Psst......the modeling included all mitigation. |

On the other hand, I think we should all be following Mr. Trump's 'instincts' on the malaria drug/Z-pack combo, could be a real game changer. Of course, you don't have to take my word for it unless you want to call NPR fake news. Or the FDA.

I never said mitigation wasn't needed. The modeling in March calculated in social distancing through I believe July or August and had deaths at around 250k by August.
The model has since been adjusted to around 66k deaths by August, again accounting for social distancing through June or so.
160k died in 1957 in the U.S. from a pandemic and another 100k in 1968 from a pandemic. Our nation did not go into months of lock down.
At what point is the death rate for COVID-19 acceptable for the U.S. to return to normal. There is no guarantee a vaccine will provide any more immunity then the normal flu vaccine. Viruses mutate.
I guess let the gov't continue to arbitrarily restrict personal freedoms until it determines what an acceptable death rate is for COVID-19.
