So if the draft is before the season ends would Detroit still have the highest odds? Does it stay how it currently is at the moment ? |

Ottawa has 2 potential lottery picks.....so they may have the best odds. |

The story is coming out in bits and pieces. Rankings will likely be on winning percentage. Possible that as many as 20 or 24 teams will be included in the playoff tournament located in 4 cities.
So does the draft lottery only include those teams not invited to the playoff tournament? Also, most important, the lottery would be a single team draw. No team can drop more than one placement.

Holding the draft before the end of the season is just stupid. |

NFL got huge ratings for their draft.
NHL is desperately trying to be remembered, especially in their US markets. The draft is a huge part of a rebuilding teams marketing strategy. If you stick the draft in the middle between a Stanley Cup final and the beginning of the next season week's later...the draft will simply become lost along with the contract negations for UFA's and RFA's.
It would be business negligence for the NHL not to move the draft up. |

Yes I want hockey much as the next guy, but someone humor me and tell me the last time the draft was before the end of the season? If they want to have it before the playoffs while canceling the rest of the season I wouldn't like the idea but then go for it, of course then 16 teams play for the cup NOT ONE MORE.
They have a scenario that isn't good obviously but there is a lot of room to ruin it beyond repair and that's what might happen. |

The NHL and NFL aren't comparable at all. The casual fan cares about the NFL draft because there's a good chance they've been watching all the players play in college. The NFL also drafts players that will have an immediate impact on the team.
Even hardcore hockey fans would have trouble coming up with more than 10 names of players who will be in the draft this year.
The NFL is also about a billion times more popular than the NHL. Thinking the NHL draft will pull in anything higher than abysmal ratings or make hockey relevant at all is an absurd line of thinking. It's not a ratings move. It's a money move since the contracts for scouts end June 30th.
Maybe the ratings would be a teensy than if they waited, but it's definitely not worth all the other problems it would cost. Is the draft even televised in the States? |

I think NBC Sports Network televises the first round. NHL Network takes over in the second round. |

Can we just stop it with the nonsense. There will be no resumption to the season and the draft date will be set after the season is cancelled. |

Actually...nothing to figure out.
Season’s over.
So the devils have the nucks 1st round pick which is conditional on the nucks making the playoffs or it's next year's pick unprotected
The nucks have a higher win % than team in 8th and have a game or 2 in hand
If draft is before they resume playing, how would that work?
Say nucks make the playoffs but kept their pick and drafted because where they stand today, does that player they drafted become a devils prospect
So many things to figure out - dmarsden2988

Nvm totally slipped on that. Yes Ottawa has the highest odds with 2 picks in 1st round. |
