actually, the league told its owners to payout the remaining paychecks (there were 3 left when the season stopped) in full.
also, it's not up to the players to "give back" what is in escrow. they have no control over that. it's strictly an accounting issue.
the only reason that the players can be "principled" about this is because it's the end of the season.
had this been at the start of the season, you'd hear a lot more players talking about wanting to get back because they "love" the game. - RealityChecker
“the league” is the owners, Bettman works for the ownership group. |

How’s Sweden’s model doing ?
Are they risking lives ?
Seems to me that their model is proving that lockdowns and quarantine of the healthy was never the correct answer. I keep hearing wait and see their death toll with be astronomical. I’m still waiting to see ....as they continue to go about normal life with some minor social distancing. - Redmile247
bloats linked this article the other day:
https://www.cbc.ca/news/c...-social-anxiety-1.5544951
it shows that sweden's death rate is much higher (adjusted for population) than it's scandanavian neighbours.
also, it shows that in bc where we have taken it very seriously, we seem to be doing well. |

Don’t get hung up on the specifics of what I said. What I’m proposing is that the league ask the players to help support the long term viability of the league by “giving back” in some meaningful way. They are, after all, partners. I think that if they asked, players would be open to a solution that didn’t risk their personal safety, create unneeded stress and insured long term health of the league. |

Ultimately I think they’ll find a way to get the season and playoffs in, do I think they should, no, but one way or another I think it’s going to happen. |

i think that other leagues/sports will start to operate in whatever capacity they can. the nhl will follow suit.

That's true . People don't give a poop until it is their mother or their wife or child . Then they scream why didn't the government do something.

exactly my opinion as well. i can see sports/entertainment getting back to business but then having to pause once again due to a resurgence.
but that could be the same thing with society/business in general as well.
we're focused on sports (obviously) but the same conversation can be had over most businesses in the economy. |

That’s not accurate. It isn’t life as normal with minor social distancing. They have plenty of rules in place to help protect people, but are relying largely on the integrity of their population to do the right thing. But perhaps it isn’t going as well as they hoped because the city of Stockholm is now threatening to close bars and restaurants that aren’t abiding by the social / physical distancing guidelines. |

And for sports, that is the hard part. Spend millions to get a partial season up and running and all the publicity with it. Then 2 weeks in a player shows symptoms and you are back at square one with a restart, a publicity nightmare for not just shutting it down and looking greedy, and losing all the money you put in to start it back up. |

Unless the Flyers or Canucks we’re in the playoffs I’d start to lose interest after the first round, the best round, because you’re just not indoors a lot.
If they start again I’ll keep an eye on it, mostly because the Flyers will probably win a few rounds, but at the end of the day I won’t be watching much hockey mid summer. |
