And for sports, that is the hard part. Spend millions to get a partial season up and running and all the publicity with it. Then 2 weeks in a player shows symptoms and you are back at square one with a restart, a publicity nightmare for not just shutting it down and looking greedy, and losing all the money you put in to start it back up. - carsonagenic

Unless the Flyers or Canucks we’re in the playoffs I’d start to lose interest after the first round, the best round, because you’re just not indoors a lot.
If they start again I’ll keep an eye on it, mostly because the Flyers will probably win a few rounds, but at the end of the day I won’t be watching much hockey mid summer. - LeftCoaster

That's true . People don't give a poop until it is their mother or their wife or child . Then they scream why didn't the government do something.

With all the domestic violence, abuse, suicide, small businesses going under, people losing their jobs, homes....I’m willing to bet everyone knows more than just someone affected by this virus.

yup, that's a fair point.
but conversely, their biggest operating cost is player salary and they've already spent that.
it's a mess either way. |

I’d love to see that, however, they have to make the post season first. Not a guarantee n right now. |

Do you think MLB will get started soon? I wonder what the cost/benefit looks like for playing “neutral site”? Like, will they actually manage to make enough revenue to cover the cost of 100% of the league being on the road vs 50% - given that there will be zero ticket revenue and owners are still paying for their buildings.
I would think that longer series would be more effective - 7 games instead of 3, maybe a double header mixed in. That would cut the amount of travel in half. Maybe the schedule is regionally heavy, instead of NL/AL? That would also cut travel considerably. |

i don't follow mlb but don't they make a lot of money with digital streaming rights?
i know that other leagues (nfl) started toying with games streaming on yahoo etc., so could this pandemic accelerate the process?
just like we're seeing a landscape change with a lot more working from home, we may see a change in sports media presentation. |

12 teams will be over the cap if they came back healthy now to resume the season. |

Again, I’m not sure it’s the greatest idea but I do think they’ll start with their centralized location plan and then perhaps normalize come August. Just best guess on my part. |

For a team that looked done when the season halted they get their goalie back and are less likely to get injuries compared to older teams. I like their chances now |

Retzy’s VR solution. I have no idea what the revenue model looks like for MLB, I’m just wondering about any cities desire to host that many people all in one place.
After that “Edmonton hosting the Pacific division” idea was floated public officials from the city were like “woah, settle down now, don’t expect gatherings of more than 15 people this summer”... |
