How’s Sweden’s model doing ?

Are they risking lives ?

Seems to me that their model is proving that lockdowns and quarantine of the healthy was never the correct answer. I keep hearing wait and see their death toll with be astronomical. I’m still waiting to see ....as they continue to go about normal life with some minor social distancing.

- Redmile247

They chose to go a different path which may be beneficial long term. By allowing the 98% healthy to develop that 'herd immunity' it may peak and disappear quicker but their death rates may be slightly higher. Many think the massive over-reaction with Lockdowns and quarantines will actually 'promote' the second and possibly third waves. Hard to say yet but Taiwan was predicted to have some of the highest death rates ever and with no lockdowns and quarantines have barely any. Different approaches and numbers for different areas I guess.

For a team that looked done when the season halted they get their goalie back and are less likely to get injuries compared to older teams. I like their chances now
- Redmile247

True, but that works for all teams now. I’d love to see Horvat and Pettersson in the playoffs.

Unless the Flyers or Canucks we’re in the playoffs I’d start to lose interest after the first round, the best round, because you’re just not indoors a lot.

If they start again I’ll keep an eye on it, mostly because the Flyers will probably win a few rounds, but at the end of the day I won’t be watching much hockey mid summer.

- LeftCoaster

They might win one depending on who they draw.

If the Nucks meet the Flames we'll move on if we meet the Oil it's one and done.

No evidence yet to suggest that herd immunity is even on the table. There are those who were sick, who are sick again, but they don’t know if it was false positive the first time or if having the virus and recovering doesn’t make you immune. Need more time.

taiwan, due to their experience with the sars outbreak took things very seriously from the start and tested like crazy at the beginning which most countries in the west did not do. they tested a large part of their populace and tracked infections due to their less strict "personal privacy" concerns. that allowed them to keep the initial infection rate down.

but then again, keep slurping every conspiracy theory. we can't tell the sheep which shepherd to follow.

he’s hangin with friends I see. I’m doing the same, had a buddy over yesterday afternoon, we had beers on the back patio. Which I’ve done several times now. Really except for the golf course being closed for a month, now open, and my local pub being closed my life hasn’t really changed tremendously. It’s changed, but not hugely.

Sweden is only testing those who are sick in hospital and health care workers and managed 240 new cases on Thursday. Imagine if they tested more people they would know about more cases...

Edit, that was 240 in Stolkholm, not sure about total cases in the country.

One of the players was saying the the playoffs might actually be one of the best. For the vast majority of teams, they'll be going in with a 100% healthy lineup. You'll see the best of every team out of the gate. That first round would be amaaazing
