He wasn’t taking on a full 8 yr at 5.7-6.2 a year and the Sabres weren’t doing more than that nor only a 5 yr deal.

Now he’s only looking at one big payday. An 8 yr deal takes him to 32 going on 33.

In the end he probably left money on the table as by 32 his foot speed will be an issue. Chances are he’s have gotten another pay day @ 30, right before his foot speed falls off a cliff.
