No I wouldn’t, I would want that person prosecuted to the fullest. If bad people want to get their hands on a weapon, they will, no laws or restrictions are going to prevent that.
We live in a free society where law abiding citizens shouldn’t be subjected to rules because of a few bad people. You sound like a communist where you’d like the government to control every aspect of your life?

Let's see when all those Americans have a food and money shortage. At least they will all be packing guns.
I loved the photo yesterday at the MI State building where a bunch of thugs put scarves over their faces and showed up with assault riffles threatening to shoot people who opposed.

I don't see how having an assault rifle designed to create as much carnage as possible quickly, improves one's life let alone is a right or privilege. If that's communist then I am a full fledged Commie.
The NDP are horse sh*t like most of the Canadian political parties.

Why does it have to improve ones life? Why can’t law abiding citizens who enjoy shooting them be left alone to do so. Your argument is silly. There are thousands if not millions of responsible gun owners, but let’s take that away from them because in the past 30 years there’s been three gun incidents involving assault weapons.
Edit: for the record I don’t own an assault rifle or weapon, I do however own non-restricted and restricted weapons, which I haven’t used for a long time. But I’m a responsible gun owner and strangely enough I’ve never killed anyone.

I'm not a gun toting nutjub, but I do have rifles and a shotgun for hunting. Its the grandstanding by the government that pisses me off. As per the CBC, "Illegal firearms from U.S. sources are used in 70 to 90 per cent of all gun-related crimes".
You get caught with an illegal firearm- Jail.
You commit a crime with a firearm- Jail for longer.
You murder with a firearm- Cat Food Machine.
Stop just pandering for votes when there is a crisis.

According to data supplied to CBC, the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) seized 647 firearms of all makes and models last year. That number has been declining over the last three fiscal years.
Less then 700 guns seized out of millions of crossings, but its easier to slap another law on Canadian citizens that abide all the rules everyday.

Hand gun or rifle?
I’m not bothered by short range hunting rifles or shot guns, but it’s the handguns I don’t get. They are made specifically for killing people. Why does the average citizen need one?

I have friends and family with legal firearms including rifles, mostly for hunting which I have zero issue. None of them are hankering for assault rifles. My issue is weapons designed to kill lots of people quickly. They should be banned and I don't care that some people can't have more fun at the range because of that.
Why do they need to shoot with assault rifles? - Marwood
What are you now the fun police? You get to decide what people can and can’t enjoy? A lot of people have high horsepower vehicles that kill people why do they need to own those vehicles? Should we take them away from them as well?

Fun police? F*ck off!
I see no justification for owning an assault rifle even if it's "fun".
I laugh every time I see one of those high horsepower cars getting hoisted onto a tow truck as buddy is frantically calling someone to pick him up on the side of the freeway.

Both....but why is the argument about need? Is everything in your life an absolute need? Do you not responsibly own things just for pure enjoyment? What’s next, are they going to take all my hunting and fishing knives away because I could harm someone with them?
I’m just playing devils advocate. I don’t like to see peoples lives over regulated.

You live in a society. You share your space with others. As a group of people you need to come to a consensus on what’s right and what’s wrong. That’s the trade off. If the majority feels that weapons are a bad thing you accept it or GTFO.
If you live in your own private country you can do what the hell you want. Otherwise you conform. That’s the inconvenient truth about a social democracy.

One of my issues is, there is NO official definition of what is an assault style weapon in the Canadian laws. You can take virtually all basic looking grandpa style semi-auto rifles (or bolt/pump action for that matter) buy an after-market stock, tactical scope, and other add on's, and it looks like an assault style weapon. Are they banning these to? Just a slippery slope and once again I'm not a gun nut.

Typical hyperbolic over-reaction to a reasonable argument.
And yes, we're taking away your kitchen carving knife and your Swiss army knife because you're acting like a petulant child, screaming "Mine!!".
