Carol Schram: Nils Hoglander, the AHL, return to play and how to tell the Sedins apart The NHL and its affiliated leagues try to find a way back to action, thoughts on where newly signed Nils Hoglander might play next season and some tidbits on the hockey futures of Alex Burrows and Roberto Luongo, and how to tell Daniel and Henrik Sedin apart.

Thank you Carol.

The AHL would be in big trouble with crowdless stadiums but luckily Americans think Covid 19 doesn't apply to them and they will have beaches and stadiums full with people in no time.

I would love Burrows to get back with Canucks . I know some hate bringing back alumni to be part of Canucks but he was my favorite Canuck ever. If his drive , heart and soul could rub off on four or five players you would have a winning team.

I don't think most Americans will have 2 pennies to rub together though for hockey games. Football on the other hand...
I would have no problem with Burrows coming back to the organization in some coaching capacity as long as it is earned. Loved his work ethic and drive from nowhere to top line in the NHL. But no just handing titles out. If he is the best for the position and his pedigree with the team is the icing on the cake, all for it.

He is putting in the time in Laval. I think this is his second year?

I don't subscribe to the Athletic but Lebrun was saying the CBA has to be renegotiated.

I think you are bang on with some previous posts about after pandemic contracts.

I think this year most of the teams are going to have only so many cap dollars because of the flat cap this year and the flat cap for possibly a few years.

I don't think any team will look at Tanev as a 6 mil player anymore and Dillon will be hard pressed to find 3.5 mil.

I can see players wanting to return to their home provinces to play seeing money will be pretty equal across the board.

I believe so. Just like a player prospect, let him ripen in the minors. I know he has no contract with the Canucks, but his heart is here so you would think that he would bargain with them before taking a position with another organization.

Yep, there will be no dollars to chase. This will help teams hold on to their own FA's, but it will also kill the trade market for most veteran players, I think. So our dreams of trading Sutter, Beagle, Loui (even if that was ever possible) won't be happening. Most teams will fill out their rosters with cost controlled youth from within the own systems. My guess is the cap will remain flat or drop for the next 5 season. So the majority of teams will be forced by Covid collusion in dropping the cap ceiling and bringing down the cap floor. Just wish that the Canucks were not tied to these bad contracts at this time. At least most will be gone in the next 2 seasons, and our Utica depth will hopefully shine through.

I imagine if we do return to action there will be a fair amount of players that will not report due to fear/concern over covid. For example should a guy like max domi whose a diabetic really be risking contracting it no matter how safe we make it.

Also I’ll be somewhat disappointed if luongo goes the management route. Part of me was hoping to see a broadcast panel with him and bieksa on it someday.

Who cares, the NHL is losing $1billion in revenue. A couple of player deaths is collateral damage.

Think Burr likes being back in Quebec. @Vantel, I think he worked as an assistant with the baby Senators after retiring? Rings a bell.

He will get his shot at some point if he applies the same kind of determination to coaching as he did playing. Unless he’s a morans...

Of all the other Canadian teams I think I hate the Habs the least. I mean, you feel sorry for the Sens, but 25 Cups (or whatever), impressive.

As an assistant coach with Laval, he is already part of the Habs' organization.

Maybe he'll follow in Vigneault's footsteps and come coach the Canucks after he's been fired as the Canadiens head coach. I'd love to see him win a cup as head coach in Vancouver, but only after he's earned the opportunity. Could be quite a ways down the road.

I acknowledge teams cup wins for what it was that being an achievement in a totally different era with many different circumstances.

Todays NHL is so far different I won’t get into it. It’s more relevant who has won cups since the league has many more teams than only 6.

I see him hopefully breaking in replacing NB & running both the PP & PK.

If hockey gets played it's going to be a crap product, just flip a coin for the cup.

We know there would be no interview because.... well no one understands him. That's why he coaches in Quebec.

When you have lemons you make lemonade. I’ll wait & see what happens before passing my verdict.
