Locally we talked a lot about how poopty the Ryan Clowe signing was. The Horton and Clarkson signings were HUGE injury mistakes...
There is usually some very good logic that goes into a bad signing. DP is no exception. BUT the contract was such a big deal at the time I don't see how you can be surprised it gets brought up. - Queenie_5_hole
When a guy gets hurt you normally don't hear people talk about what a mistake it was... I have never heard anyone mention the Pronger signing or even Jason Blake as HUGE mistakes b/c they had medical issues. DP was 26 too... Pronger was 36 years old when he signed a 7 year deal with philly for $7.6 mill a year. He had previous injuries too.. .DP had none. |

people love to point out DP's contract as "worst in history".. there have been tons I can think of worse where guys got HUGE deals and just stunk. That is a huge mistake (see Ladd)...
Brzzy, Holik, Ladd, Brad Richards, Redden, A-mac, etc. |

The length of DP's contract is why its still brought up. There is nothing else like it, so it stands out. |

Milbury really screwed up here. We wouldn't have needed DP if the bozo didn't trade Luongo in the first place, which has been debated previously. - NYIFan4Life

Not going to lie, after posting I thought "I should really say other than Ladd and take him off the list to make it more interesting."
But here we are. - Ben Shelley

Yep exactly. No reason to get riled up about it. Is what it is a high risk high reward contract. Didn’t work out and we all move on... |

It’s Ladd.
Part of me wanted to vote Boychuk, but Ladd is more easy to replace for less. |

yep.. but the length is what he did for them to keep him. They couldn't give him even close to his market value.. so they made up for it in length. I loved him for it then.. and after watching snake boy 2 years ago.. I think I love him for it now too. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHBUOAnG_6A not sure if you guys saw this but it's excellent interview with Glenn Healy. talks about the 1993 team beating the pens.
Hunter's hit on Turgeon and Pilon and Vukota trying to get to him in the locker room.. 25 - 30 nassau cops holding them back.
being traded to Rangers that summer when he was in Ireland with Flatley and 5 other guys from team.
really good stuff. |

I'm not arguing for or against the contract. You could probably list tons of bad 3 to 8 year contracts. There is only one 15 year so it stands out. That was my only point. |
