Was reading about Rathbone ( Rick D credited)

He said Rathbone wants to sign and hopes to make the Canucks but if he doesn't then he is assigned to the AHL and they are up in the air as to when or if they may start up again.

This is why he is waiting to see if he is bette off to go get another year of schooling.

Smart thinking TBH. another year at college is better than half a year wasted waiting for the AHL.

EDIT: This also doesn't bode well for the LE situation. We send him down, and he doesn't have to go anywhere but home until AHL season starts.

I think that teams will be looking more to their prospects this year to compensate for the cap loss or flattening.

Toronto has some good AHL players and guys they probably wanted to develop longer but will hurry them up a bit.

IF Hoglander is ready and is a top 9 guy then it gives the team options. Could be the same for a guy like Rafferty Briesbois or OJ.

I think it is going to be a fun off season with a lot of heated arguments

One thing for sure it wont be uneventful.

Smart kid, stay in school, sign at the end of your senior year. I believe his ELC could be burned by playing a handful (1) of games and become an RFA like Raffy and Teavesy.

I see that as a likely scenario. Another year of NCAA won’t hurt if he isn’t on the Canucks. He will have a tremendous year.

Leafs farm is pretty meh
I do agree there will be an abnormal amount of ELC’s making teams.

If there are no crowds come September, a lot of teams/leagues are going to fold, or at the very least, have to wait for things to change. AHL can’t survive in TV revenue. The NHL can probably survive short term, but if fans aren’t back in the rink by the new year, I could see some teams claiming bankruptcy.

If no CBO is forthcoming then many buyouts could be in order league wide. The UFA’s will suffer excepting top to elite talent. One more evolution in this cap world with Covid causing most of it.

The idea is for him to not report, and mutually terminate his contract.

I think the rumor is no free buy-outs. Teams will think of something for unwanted player. Stars will be hurt. If they want the money they are owed, they will likely have to go to teams they weren't thinking of playing for.

I foresee more of a cash strain is on teams like Toronto & NYR to prop up the league. The many teams who charge very little for tickets will continue to be subsidized. Economic struggles could see a team(s) to relocate. Folding won’t happen but combining 2 teams could happen once again. Could lead to another opportunity fir a future expansion bid. Seattle is coming into strange times & interesting to see how it pans out for them.

I heard the AHL is very dependent on crowds

A 24 team league would provide us with great hockey, the talent wont be watered down.

Trading will be even harder to move contracts. Idk how many if any can be moved. UFA’s will feel the biggest bite.

I see not much of a chance for CBO’s.

It's not a bigger mess than teams going bankrupt while having players under contract.

I really feel like one buyout is necessary. Give each team one free buyout, and it will allow for better hockey and more profit next season.

AHL, CHL, BCJHL (and all the other tier 2 junior leagues) won’t be able to afford to operate. CFL, MLS, Canadian Tour (golf), Tennis. Sponsor $ won’t be enough for many of these organizations to survive.

He did score that one against the Bruins. New amendment in the NHL rule book? The Gaunce clause - all pucks entering the new must have last touched a hockey stick.
