He’s lip syncing from the video below it. White old men can’t sing like that unless you’re Tom Jones. - bloatedmosquito
A man went to the doctor with a strange complaint.
"Well it's like this Doc, when I drive to work in the morning through the country lanes I start to sing 'The green green grass of home'. If I see a cat then it's 'What's new, wussy cat?'. It's so embaracing, even when I'm asleep and dreaming, I still keep singing. Last night, it was 'Delilah', and my wife was not amused!"
"Yes, it would apear that you have the early symptoms of Tom Jones syndrome."
"Well I've never heard of that, is it common?" asked the man.
"It's not unusual," replied the doctor. |

There is absolutely no reason to go back to Tanev and Stecher.
Gudas is a bit of a bad ass and could be cheap. I still like Barrie he puts up good numbers but I think Rafferty would also. - VANTEL
I'm good with Tanev on a a short deal, no to Troy |

Why would we trade for a player that's -26 and only scored 7 goals on a very mediocre/bad NJ team that was overhyped as the next coming of Mike Modano? Like someone said in the comments, NJ would start with Petey and go from there and JB would hang up immediately. |

After reading what VHG posted from the Athletic I would much prefer Tanev over several of the other UFA’s listed. |

As long as the player is cost effective and helps the club I don't care who it is, Tanev included. |

Yup, although I think Tanev is going to test free agency. |

We should ask Carol to do a comparison of available defense men, what their attributes and their shortcomings are.
I feel like people watch their own players so much that they are to easy to kick them to the curb, and then overvalue another defense man from other teams by looking at their stat lines.

Tyson Barrie on VAN? A copy and paste from Dayal & Drance on the Athletic.
The sense of urgency the Canucks once had to acquire Tyson Barrie’s services cooled off as Hughes emerged as an absolute dynamo in his rookie season.
Still, Vancouver’s oft-rumoured interest in Tyson Barrie dates back years.
It’s well known by now that the Canucks tried hard to acquire Barrie from the Colorado Avalanche at the 2019 NHL Draft. A potential trade that included the first-round pick the Canucks ultimately spent on Miller was close. Very close.
After the Canucks moved on Miller instead and Barrie was dealt to Toronto, the Canucks considered acquiring Barrie again at the 2020 trade deadline.
Talks between Toronto and Vancouver were never as advanced as it seemed one heady Sunday afternoon ahead of deadline day. The Maple Leafs asked for Troy Stecher, a first-round pick and an additional asset in exchange for Barrie. That wasn’t acceptable to Vancouver and talks stalled from there.
Now the Victoria-born Barrie is expected to hit free agency and the Canucks need a right-handed defenceman.
Barrie is an excellent player. He didn’t have his best season in Toronto, but if a down season for a defenceman still results in excellent underlying performance and a 45-point pace, you know you’re talking about a serious weapon.
Consistently, Barrie has helped his teams control play and outscore opponents at 5-on-5. He’s got an excellent shot, is a potent offensive driver and is custom made for the contemporary NHL.
And yet, the fit for Barrie in Vancouver is awkward:
Barrie excels on the power play – the Canucks have Hughes manning the point on the first unit.
Barrie doesn’t kill penalties – the Canucks appear poised to lose their short-handed minutes leader in free agency.
Barrie doesn’t help his teams prevent shots and scoring chances at 5-on-5 – the Canucks need that specific trait more than any other.
In terms of his overall form, Barrie more than makes up for any defensive shortcomings with what he provides in transition and with the puck on his stick, but by expected goals against, scoring chances against and goals against rate, Barrie’s teams have been more permissive defensively with him on the ice at 5-on-5 than they’ve been without him in four of the past five seasons. - VanHockeyGuy
That’s a long winded way of saying hes a defensive liability. Need defenders, ill be a bit disappointed if they sign this guy. Sanjose has tried this, it doesn’t work.

My first response is that I agree with this sentiment. We know what a good fit Tanev is with Quinn, and how he and Stech are both committed to the team.
We also know that fans often overvalue their own players. Two sides of the coin, right?
I don't really want to spend much time thinking about players until we get more clarity on what's happening. This would all be for 'next' season, which could still be seven months away - if all goes well.
Anyway, new blog is up, with Markstrom, return to play, some interesting thoughts from Kevin Bieksa and a bit more on Rafferty & Juolevi.
