Given the choice between the Hawks making it in the expanded 24 team playoff as the 12th team in the West, OR, moving up to 7th in the draft (if the 7 teams not in the playoffs are seeded that way), what would everyone choose?

I'll take the higher draft choice.

Everything would have to go right for the hawks to win another cup. Plus i do not see the hawks beating st.Louis or boston in a 7 game series sure anything could happen. Rather get another building block for the future. Goalie or RW be my preference.

Sadly, I think if this ever does happen, it will be in another sweater.

Let him play bottom 6 on some other lottery team.

Absolutely. I was saying "sadly" simply due to the amount of hype and discussion about whether we were going to lose him like Hayes. D. Sikura the idea was much better than D. Sikura the player.

Same reason that we should all be cautious with Mitchell. Now, I personally believe from what I've seen and read that he has a much higher ceiling and projects to be solid contributor, but he still needs to prove it.

I'm an all or nothing guy when it comes to success. I believe if you did not win the Cup, then you did not have a successful season. That said, regardless of how strong I think my team is I would always want the opportunity to participate in the (any) postseason.

I completely understand why others (most?) think that the higher draft choice is more important. This is going to come out wrong, but I don't like the thought of a "wasted" season for the benefit of draft position (no offense to Wiz). The purpose of every team, every season is to win. I always lean on more chances to do that over less.

Higher draft choice. I know this is a deep draft but there's still a substantial difference from the 1-7 spots to the 8-15 spots, especially if seeking a player like Dach who has high potential to play in the NHL right away.

Would much rather be selecting one of Rossi, Perfetti, Holtz, or Raymond at the 7th spot. Lundell would be great but would rather have these other youngsters ahead of him.

Good response Theo. I'll go along with that.

yes short term outlook play in the playoff the young players get the experience. Long term outlook get a top 10 pick in a deep draft that could now and the future. Just two ways to look at no wrong answer imo.

I kind can go either way, but if we are lucky enough to move up to top five, then I’d take that this particular year. Hawks have about a 1% chance to win the cup if they get in, if all or nothing then nothing and keep rebuilding.

Exactly. Give Mitchell 5-6 years to marinate in the AHL and he’ll be ready for a cup of coffee with the Hawks.

Time will tell on Mitchell but he was a 2nd round pick vs 6th rounder with Sikura.

I think another part of the equation that's made Sikura a bit disappointing is he was the best prospect in the system and all the Hawks had to hang their hopes on, until getting the latest pool of dmen and Dach.

Yes but Sikura being the best prospect a couple of years ago was a product of the Hawks success. Glad the prospect pool is in much better shape now, and should be better after this next draft. If we get lucky in this draft, the rebuild will be in real good shape and it will add some excitement to this team, something we haven’t had much of the last three years.

Powerful Players Tribune article from a former Hawks system player about being a PoC in hockey.

Will let you decide if Lehner's tweet a few hours later was a subtweet or not (caused quite a stir)

@RobinLehner
In the worst time of my life I blamed everyone else and always had an excuse for my problems. Wasn’t until I took ownership of my mistakes and looked within I transformed my life to what it is today. When I asked for forgiveness by god I instantly let go of the hate for others.Folded hands
